We have one of the best games of the night in college basketball as the Houston Cougars will be taking on the Wichita State Shockers. Wichita State has typically been one of the more above-average mid-major programs in the country throughout the past few years but has struggled a bit to get the season rolling in their first 20 games. Despite being 11-10, there’s a reason why people still believe that this Wichita State team can turn it around if they start figuring out how to get stops on the defensive side of the basketball at a higher level.
Many believe that Houston is going to be able to come away with an easy win here, and it’s tough to deny that. They’re going to be coming into this one as a somewhat heavy favorite on the spread line, as they’re currently a -12 point favorite.
Will Wichita Do Enough Defensively?
When looking at what b has done this season, it’s easy to see why people believe that they could possibly turn it around if things do start going their way. They’ve been playing much better basketball recently and have wins over South Florida, Tulsa, SMU, and East Carolina throughout their past 10 games. There’s still much more room for improvement here and this is the perfect opportunity for them to finally figure that out. Houston is clearly the top team in the American Athletic Conference, just as they’ve been throughout the past few seasons.
If they want any chance of beating them, their defense is going to have to show up. Houston doesn’t always have the best offense, but their team does look to be much better on that side of the basketball this season and that’s why they’re currently a top-five ranked team in America.
Is Houston’s Offense Better?
The Houston Cougars have been outstanding this year, as they’re currently 20-2 and 8-1 in their conference. Their only loss of the season in the conference came against the Temple Owls just a week ago, and that was one of the biggest upsets in college basketball this season. Temple is also 8-2 in the conference, but they’re simply not the type of team that Houston is. This Cougars team has huge aspirations and even has a chance of winning a national title if things do go their way. Things are going to start on the defensive side of the basketball for them just as they always have, but their offense needs to continue improving just as they’ve shown us throughout the past two games. In their loss against Temple, they only scored 55 points and showed that there are still some worries about what their offense can do.
Houston Cougars at Wichita State Shockers Prediction
Considering that this is currently a 12-point spread, it might not be a bad idea to hop on Wichita State. Although the Shockers have struggled a bit this season, a 12-point spread against a team like Houston is never a bad idea considering how much the team struggles to score the basketball. There are certainly ways that Houston can win this game by 12-plus and even potentially win by 20. However, Wichita State might be a better bet here.
