Giants vs Brewers Betting Preview

Two of the division leaders in the National League begin a three-game series against each other on Friday when the Milwaukee Brewers host the San Francisco Giants. At home, the Brewers are listed as favorites with a -160 moneyline compared to San Francisco’s moneyline of +135. The game also has an over/under of 8 runs.

While the Cincinnati Reds appear to be making a little bit of a move, the Brewers remain comfortably atop the NL Central standings. Milwaukee’s lead sits at seven games, with the Brew Crew 21 games over .500 on the season. The Brewers have also won nine of their last 12 games, showing no signs of slowing down.

As for the Giants, they sit 29 games over .500 and have a four-game cushion over the Los Angeles Dodgers in the NL West. San Francisco’s 69 wins are the most in the majors this year, which is why it’s a little surprising to see them as underdogs in Friday’s game. Plus, following a dramatic win over the Arizona Diamondbacks on Thursday, the Giants have won eight of their last 11 games.

Caught in the Webb

Logan Webb will make the start for the San Francisco Giants in Friday’s series opener. The 24-year-old has been a little lost in the shuffle but is playing a critical role in the success of the team’s rotation. He’s 5-3 with a 3.33 ERA over 14 starts and one relief outing this year, allowing two runs or less in eight consecutive starts.

Of course, the Milwaukee lineup is a lot more difficult to take than it was earlier in the season. The Brewers are averaging 6.1 runs per game over their last nine games, although six of those games have come against the lowly Pittsburgh Pirates. While the team’s numbers on the season don’t look overly impressive, Willy Adames, Eduardo Escobar, and Avisail Garcia are all raging hot right now.

Feeling the Burnes

With the team’s offense heating up, the Milwaukee Brewers‘ pitching staff looks even more intimidating, especially with Corbin Burnes getting the start on Friday. Burnes has made 18 starts this year, going 6-4 with a 2.46 ERA. His lack of wins is a little surprising, but Burnes is striking out batters at a high rate and also has a WHIP of 0.97.

The only caveat with Burnes is that he gave up five runs over four innings in his last start. Meanwhile, the Giants are averaging six runs per game over their last eight games since getting shut out by the Dodgers last week. The Giants are also close to full strength with everyone but Evan Longoria back from the IL, and Kris Bryant already making a positive impact since joining the club last week.

Seize the Opportunity

It’s not every day that the team with the most wins in baseball is listed as an underdog. While Burnes and the Brewers are favored for a reason, San Francisco’s lineup is heating up, and Webb helps to reduce Milwaukee’s edge in terms of starting pitching.

Bettors would be wise to seize this opportunity and pick the Giants to win as +135 underdogs on Friday night.
