Foxwoods Reimplement Mask Mandate; Man in Vegas Climbs 60-Story Casino Protesting the Same

Foxwoods Reimplement Mask Mandate While a Man in Vegas Climbs a 60-Story Casino Protesting the Same

Foxwoods Resort Casino has reintroduced a mask mandate to all employees regardless of their vaccination status. With the rise of new coronavirus cases following the spread of the delta variant, Connecticut is experiencing high numbers of infections. In fact, all eight counties in the state can be described as capable of elevating community transmission, according to the US CDC substantially.

The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (US CDC) recommends that states fitting the description of “substantial” community transmission should implement mitigation efforts. One of such efforts is wearing face masks while indoors. Now, the state is tending to 163 hospitalized patients with the COVID-19.

Connecticut Governor Ned Lamont, released a statement encouraging residents from two years old to return to wearing masks when in an indoor public space. Ned confirmed that there had been a rapid increase in infections in the past 14 days.

However, the government is not doing anything to enforce the governor’s plea. But, businesses are taking it upon themselves to take action and encourage employees and clients to wear masks.

Foxwoods Is Yet To Get Out of the Woods

Seventy-five percent of employees at Foxwoods Resort Casino are vaccinated. The casino has over 1,000 employees working within the casino’s property.

The casino’s CEO, Jason Guyot, talked to Norwich Bulletin about the issue. He said that vaccinated people could still carry and spread the coronavirus, thus the need to implement the mask mandate. But, visitors fully vaccinated do not have to wear a face mask.

Jason asked non-vaccinated guests to continue wearing face masks for their safety. He promised that the casino’s management would monitor the situation and adjust safety guidelines accordingly.

Foxwoods is the latest gambling facility to reintroduce mask mandate. Other casinos in Nevada require all employees to have face covering while on duty. Other casinos in North Carolina, California, Mississippi, and Iowa have also reintroduced face masks for their employees.

The other tribal casino in Connecticut, Mohegan Sun, is yet to reintroduce face masks. But, the casino is encouraging unvaccinated guests to wear a face covering. On the other hand, employees must show proof of their vaccination to work in the resort without a mask on.

Man Protests Reintroduction of Mask Mandate

As casinos across the country are reinstating the mask mandate, one man in Las Vegas is not happy about it. The 22-year-old man was seen urban climbing the 60-story Aria Resort and Casino, protesting the mask mandate.

Maison Des Champs urban climbed the 600-foot hotel tower on Tuesday. The police arrested Maison and booked him on a trespassing misdemeanor, not amounting to misconduct and burglary. He started to climb at 5:30 am and was first noticed by an employee 30 minutes later with 30 feet to go. Maison climbed the hotel to honor his grandfather, who died last year.

Maison told the Las Vegas Review-Journal that COVID-19 was dangerous. But, he noted masks were not a big deal to wear. He stressed that wearing masks stood for loss of personal choice and freedom.

Des Champs is scheduling another protest outside the Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino. He does not intend to urban climb but wants to hold his march on the pavements.
