The Boston Celtics will host the Philadelphia 76ers in game 5 of their Eastern Conference playoff series. Boston currently leads the series 3-1, but the Celtics were unable to close out the series with a sweep. The Sixers got their first win of the series in game 4, beating the Celtics 103-92.
The young Sixers squad finally played a complete game on Monday night, and will be playing to keep their season alive in game 5. The Celtics hope that playing in front of their home crowd in Boston will propel them to a series win. The Celtics are +1.0 against the 76ers in game 5.
The Philadelphia 76ers were able to win game 4, thanks to two unlikely heroes. Dario Saric and T.J. McConnell both had huge games to lead the Sixers to victory. Saric has had a rough series, but bounced back in game 4 and poured in a team high 25 points. McConnell was inserted into the starting lineup for game 4, and responded by having a career night, finishing with 19 points on 9-12 shooting.
The 76ers will need contributions from both of these players in game 5 if they want to extend the series. Ben Simmons and Joel Embiid will lead the Sixers, but they need plenty of help in order to survive. Philadelphia finally found some offense in game 4, and now appear to again be a threat to Boston.
Celtics Must Stop Fouling
Boston has been able to frustrate the Sixers with physical play for much of the series, but the plan backfired in game 4. The Celtics committed 28 fouls in the game, and had several players in foul trouble throughout. Boston will look to continue to be physical with the Sixers, but have to be smarter to avoid fouls.
Jayson Tatum continues to lead the Celtics, and was once again solid in game 4. The young star finished with a team high 20 points. Marcus Morris was also solid off the bench in game 4, but the Celtics weren’t good enough on offense. With Tatum leading the way, the Celtics hope to finish off the Sixers in game 5.
Sixers Win, Keep Series Alive
The Celtics were unable to complete the four game sweep, and now the Sixers have hope. Boston has been able to overcome adversity the entire season, but were not able to overcome their foul trouble during game 5. The Celtics will need to play smarter in game 5 if they want to eliminate the Sixers.
Philadelphia looked sluggish through the first three games of the series, but played with great energy and desperation in game 5. The Sixers will try to use this same strategy as the series heads back to Boston. Philadelphia is an extremely talented team that is very capable of winning four games in a row. Boston was unable to finish the job Monday night, and now the Sixers will keep the pressure on with a game 5 win. Bet the Philadelphia 76ers -1.0 over the Boston Celtics in game 5.
