Guard Cade Cunningham acknowledged the team’s challenges, saying, “Everybody wants to win, everybody hates losing, so it’s hard. We’ve got to be realistic as well. Can’t just keep saying the same things over and over, like we’ll get the next one. There has to be like a plan of action, so we’re just trying to figure that out.”
Bright Spots for the Nets
While the Pistons grapple with their historic losing streak, the Brooklyn Nets had a standout performance in the game. Mikal Bridges led the way with 29 points, seven assists, and six rebounds. The Nets had seven players scoring in double figures and managed to break their own five-game losing streak.
The Nets capitalized on the Pistons’ 13 turnovers and shot an impressive 52.3% from the field. The game saw a quick turnaround in the third quarter when the Nets scored seven straight points to extend their lead to nine. In the end, they secured a 10-0 run to close the period with an impressive 98-82 lead.
Cam Thomas continued the momentum in the fourth quarter, scoring five points and helping the Nets reach their largest lead of 103-82.
Searching for Solutions
Coach Monty Williams, who was NBA Coach of the Year in 2021-22, took responsibility for the team’s performance, but the challenges go beyond coaching. The Pistons have one of the youngest rosters in the league, with an average age of slightly under 25 years old.
They struggle with frequent fouls, turnovers, and an inability to overcome these issues. The road to recovery is a steep one, and owner Tom Gores has expressed the need for changes in the “near future” to address the team’s problems and bring in quality veterans to mentor the young players.
The Pistons’ last victory came on October 28, and they now face the daunting task of breaking their streak and turning their season around.
