A pair of Pac-12 teams will mix it up in the first conference game of the season for both teams. The Stanford Cardinal will take on the Trojans of USC at the Coliseum in Los Angeles. The USC Trojans are ranked 6th in the nation, and have aspirations of playing for a College Football national title. Darnold Looking to Improve
Sam Darnold came into the season as a Heisman Candidate favorite. The quarterback for USC was not awful, but did not throw a touchdown in the season opening win. Darnold tossed for 289 yards in the win. The big story for the Trojans was their running back Ronald Jones II. The running back rushed for 3 touchdowns and 159 yards.
The Trojans know they have to get past a team that they have struggled with in the past. USC will stay at home for their third straight game next week, as they host the Texas Longhorns. The Trojans do not play another ranked team until they go on the road at the end of September to take on Washington State.
Cardinal Not Tested in Week 1
The Stanford Cardinal took a trip to Australia and blew out Rice in the season opener. David Shaw’s team was a little concerned how the team would stack up without their stud running back Christian McCaffrey this season. It was quickly answered by Bryce Love, who rushed for 180 yards and a touchdown.
Connor Wedington was the top receiver for quarterback Kelly Chryst. Chryst threw 2 touchdowns, but Wedington was not one of them. He just led the team with 82 receiving yards in the game. Stanford plays their home opener in Week 4 as they host the UCLA Bruins in a Pac-12 affair.
Trojans Roll
The USC Trojans are a better, more athletic team. The USC Trojans have had a tough time winning games like this before in the past. This is a game the Trojans MUST win if they think they are a national title contender. Look for Sam Darnold to be exception in this game over Stanford.
They will need him to take care of the football, and this time get a pass into the endzone. The Trojans defense will also have to be better, as the Broncos of Western Michigan lit them up last week. The final bet for this game though is the USC Trojans. Take the Trojans -6.5 over the Cardinal.
