Clemson Tigers at Louisville Cardinals Betting Preview

Things are going very well for No. 3 Clemson, one of the top teams in the country thus far, with long-haired star QB Trevor Lawrence leading the way for them. Their offense is producing the 15th-most points in the nation at 39.2 per game, while they allow just the 12th-fewest at 12.3 per game. They are stout on both sides of the ball, which is a big reason for their dominant start. Dabo Swinney’s guys are always among the best in the country.

Louisville would love to find another QB like Lamar Jackson to come take over, but at 4-2, they have been a solid, hard-nosed football team to date. Their offense is putting 37 points per game, while their D has been a significant weak spot, giving up 31 points per game. They get themselves into shootouts, and while they can win these games, it’s always stress-inducing for the offensive players watching it unfold. They need to be better on the defensive side this time.

Despite being the road team, the Tigers are favored by 24 points. The over/under is set at 60.5.

Clemson Looking To Stay Perfect

The Tigers are among the best in the game, and the end goal every year is to make it to the Playoff and then go win two games to be claimed as the CFB champion. Lawrence has not exactly looked exceptional to this point in the year, completing 63 percent of his passes for 1,301 yards and 11 TDs, along with six picks. He has to step up. Travis Etienne, meanwhile, is posting seven yards per carry, gaining 589 yards and scoring seven times on just 84 rushes. Tee Higgins has posted great receiving numbers from Lawrence with 24 catches for 549 yards and three touchdowns.

Clemson has a very solid pass rush, led by Isaiah Simmons (four sacks) and Tyler Davis (three sacks). Both of them are going to be looking to put Louisville quarterback Malik Cunningham on the turf this week. The Tigers have seven interceptions, including two touchdown runbacks.

Cardinals Aim For A Significant Upset

The Cardinals know how to win big games, and they score a lot. So for those reasons, Louisville fans can enter with a little optimism. Cunningham has split reps with Jawon Pass and Evan Conley, with the trio combining for 1,568 yards, 15 touchdowns and three picks. Pass is out for the season, so expect Conley and Cunningham to get the rest of the reps. Javian Hawkins has been a workhorse, with 111 carries for 622 yards (5.6 ypc), and he’s scored three touchdowns. Chatarius Atwell (31 catches for 505 and six touchdowns) and Dez Fitzpatrick (21 catches, 408 yards, five scores) have been dominant this year.

They have three different players with multiple sacks, but the pass rush is not the Cardinals’ strongest position area on D. Louisville has forced seven fumbles, tackling with a lot of force, and it can change Clemson’s gameplan if it can take it out of Etienne’s hands.

Clemson Wins A Tough One

The Tigers will win but will not cover the spread. A fun battle will ensue between the teams.
