Cincinnati Bearcats at Brigham Young Cougars Betting Preview

Friday Night under the lights will be an interesting one here in Week 5, as a pair of new teams inside the Big 12 will meet up. The Cincinnati Bearcats are on the road at the Brigham Young Cougars.

Cincinnati comes into the game with a 2-2 record. The Bearcats are coming off the loss to Oklahoma, while their other loss this season was at home to Miami, Ohio.

For the Cougars, their perfect season came to an end in Lawrence. The Kansas Jayhawks beat them 38-27 last week. The previous week, the Cougars went on the road and beat the Razorbacks of Arkansas.

The Brigham Young Cougars are -2.5 in this game over the Cincinnati Bearcats on Friday night.

Cougars Looking for Home Cooking

The Brigham Young Cougars hope that getting back home will help them get back on track. The Cougars have been on the road the last two games.

The Cougars turned the ball over twice for touchdowns in their previous game at Kansas, a game in which they lost by 11 points. The Cougars are scoring 30 points per game and allowing 21.3 per game so far in 2023.

The passing game is where the Cougars make their money. They are throwing for shy of 264 yards per game. Kedon Slovis has been solid for the Cougars, with eight touchdowns in four games. Isaac Rex is the top receiver for Brigham Young, with 17 receptions, 260 yards and a score. L.J. Martin leads the team with 223 rushing yards.

Brigham Young will head out to TCU following their bye week and then be back home to take on Texas Tech on October 21st.

Bearcats Seeking Road Win

So far in 2023, the Cincinnati Bearcats have played one road game, and that was a win over Pittsburgh. That was their second game of the season, which came after the 66-13 win over Eastern Kentucky. Since then, the Bearcats made trips to Miami OH, and Oklahoma.

Next up for the Bearcats will be a bye next week before back-to-back home games against the Iowa State Cyclones and Baylor Bears.

Cincinnati is led by quarterback Emory Jones. The signal-caller needs to work on taking care of the football a bit, as he has seven touchdown passes but also five interceptions on the season. His top targets this season have been Xzavier Henderson, Braden Smith, and Dee Wiggins. Those three are combining for over 700 yards and four touchdowns.

On the offensive side, when the Bearcats run the ball, most likely, it’s Corey Kiner or quarterback Emory Jones. Those two have combined for 112 carries with over 500 yards and five touchdowns on the ground.

Cougars Hold Serve at Home

The Cougars are the better team here. They had the chance to beat a pretty solid Kansas game but just could not get the job done. This is a pretty tight spread, but the Brigham Young Cougars are going to win this game and cover the spread.

Look for the offense of the Cougars to keep the ball moving all night long and the defense to make enough plays to get the job done.

The final bet on Friday night is the Brigham Young Cougars -2.5 over the Cincinnati Bearcats.
