Chicago Bears at Green Bay Packers Betting Preview

Chicago Bears at Green Bay Packers Betting Preview

NFC North rivals square off on Sunday night as the Chicago Bears and Green Bay Packers match up at Lambeau Field. Last week, the Bears (1-0) defeated the San Francisco 49ers at home 19-10 while covering the 6.5-point spread as the home underdog.

The Packers (0-1), on the other hand, turned in a lackluster season opener as they were thumped by the Vikings 23-7 on the road.

Both squads have contrasting rosters as the new-look Bears showcase a younger roster with a new head coach at the helm, while the Packers have a more seasoned roster.

The Green Bay Packers are -10 (-110) favorites thanks to 15 wins in their last 17 contests over the Bears. The Bears, on the other hand, are +10 (-110) underdogs on the spread and +360 underdogs on the money line. The point total is set at 41.5.

Bears Look For Another Upset Victory

In his coaching debut, the Bears awarded new head coach Matt Eberflus a tough home victory as Chicago outlasted the San Francisco 49ers 19-10 in a downpour.

After finishing 6-11 the previous year and missing the playoffs for the ninth time in 11 years, the Bears made the decision to drastically alter their franchise direction.

Despite being down 10-0 in the third quarter, quarterback Justin Fields turned the game around, throwing for two touchdown passes in the second half, one to Dante Pettis and the other to Equanimeous St. Brown. Fields had a modest 8/17 passing attempts for 121 yards, two touchdowns, and an interception on the day while running back Khalil Herbert had the most yardage in the backfield with 45 yards on nine carries and a touchdown.

In the sloppy conditions, the Bears’ defense rose to the occasion and restrained the 49ers’ offense. Roquan Smith led the team with nine tackles, including a half sack, while safety Eddie Jackson picked off Trey Lance, setting up Chicago’s third touchdown. In the end, the Bears’ defense bowed but didn’t break, allowing the Niners to gain 331 yards but only score 10 points.

Packers Hope To Pick Up First Win And Get Back To .500

The skeptics are back in full form after the Packers were humiliated 26-10 by division rival Minnesota. As a result of a bad game plan and a bad overall effort, the Packers struggled mightily in their season opener for the second straight year after being humiliated by New Orleans the previous year. Aaron Rodgers’ first game without Davante Adams was not pretty, and there will be a major learning curve with a new look offense.

Aaron Rodgers did everything he could, completing 22 of 34 passes for 195 yards on the day, but with several drops and four sacks taken, the offense couldn’t get going.

By halftime, the score was 17-0, and Green Bay was unable to fully recover from the early disadvantage. The good news is, the running back tandem of Aaron Jones and AJ Dillon looked tremendous as they totaled 94 yards on 15 carries with a touchdown.

The revamped Vikings offense gained 395 total yards of offense thanks to the Packers’ poor defense. They were unexpectedly effective on third down, limiting the Vikings to just 4-of-13 efficiency; however, their biggest shortcoming was in yards per play, as the Packers allowed 8.2 yards per successful pass in the contest.

With only one sack and one pass breakup throughout the day, Green Bay will undoubtedly need to provide more pressure on the quarterback this week.

With 61 touchdown passes and only ten interceptions over the course of his career, Aaron Rodgers is an incredible 22-5 against the Bears. Rodgers has a 12-2 career record at home against Chicago, and there is a known distaste for the Chicago franchise.

A closer look at this contest reveals that the Packers have a significantly more talented squad, despite Green Bay’s inexperience at wide out.

The Bears won last week’s game against the 49ers thanks to a “perfect storm” of circumstances. The Packers play very well at home, and Justin Fields and the offense will continue to experience growing pains as they managed just 204 yards of total offense last week.

Expect Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers to clobber their division rival at home. Green Bay -10 (-110) is the pick to play for this one.
