Zobian Caps Off Impressive U.S. Poker Open

The 2024 PokerGO U.S. Poker Open just recently wrapped up, and it was a great week of live poker action for many players. While 10 different players won at least $268,000 during this tournament, all of them were looking up to Aram Zobian in the final standings.

It’s hard to put into words just how dominant Zobian was throughout this event, and this run came out of nowhere. Zobian ended up winning over $613,000 throughout the eight events, and he had nearly 200 more points than the second place finisher.

Eight of the top 10 finishers at this tournament came from the United States, but players from the United Kingdom and Canada took the second and fourth spots. Stephen Chidwick ended up in second place, and he was the big winner in Event #8.

Jesse Lonis entered the final event with a chance to win the overall title, but he needed to finish with a title. Zobian only needed to secure a 6th place finish at the final event to win the overall title, and that’s exactly what he was able to accomplish.

While the U.S. Poker Open was mostly for the biggest live poker players, there were some events that allowed for smaller players to contend as well.

Chidwick Wins Final Event

Event #8 was a No-Limit Hold’Em Tournament, and the buy-in for this final event came in at a buy-in of $25,200. Since there were 52 total players that decided to get into this event, the total prize pool came in at $1.3 million.

Chidwick took complete control of this event as he proved why he has had a massively successful live poker career. By taking home $429,000 by winning his 10th PokerGO event, Chidwick has now won over $57 million throughout his poker career.

Only the top eight players were paid out in this event, and it was David Coleman that ended up in that position. Chidwick was not near the top of the leaderboard heading into the final event, but one win allowed him to shoot past other top contenders.

Others in the Mix

Not only were there some other big names in the mix to win Event #8, but that was the case when looking at the overall standings. Dan Smith and Cary Katz finished in fourth and fifth place in Event #8, and each player took home at least $100,000.

Katz actually looked like he was going to make a run in the final event of the tournament, but things fell apart in a hurry. That misfortune at Event #8 kept Katz from finishing on the first page of the overall leaderboard.

Lonis took home $421,450 throughout this tournament and he ended up winning the third most money at the U.S. Poker Open. Eric Afriat from Canada was not in the mix at the final event of this tournament, but he ended his run by winning $377,900 over the past week.
