WSOP $1,000 Super Seniors No-Limit Hold’em — Michael Blake Wins!

One of the most interesting events of the WSOP series is definitely the one where we get to see senior citizens test their poker skills. One of these events was also a part of the 50th Annual World Series of Poker, and it is called Event #39: $1,000 Super Seniors No-Limit Hold’em. A total of 2,650 players applied for it and made a new record when it comes to senior events. Although we were able to witness some great poker action from many players, it was Michael Blake who took the title in the end, winning a total of $359,863. Naturally, one of the biggest trophies in the poker world was also awarded to Blake — a WSOP gold bracelet.

The tournament was supposed to last for three days, but due to the number of players who applied for it, there was a need for the fourth day as well, and Blake started it with a chip leader. In fact, he had the most chips when he was in the final ten, as he managed to river a straight and take a pot in the early point of the final play, making Rick Austin lose a lot of chips. Furthermore, Blake managed to send William Davis out of the play in tenth place, making room for the final table to be created with the top nine players who were left in the game.

After 60 hands in the final table, it was Cary Marshall who managed to take the lead, as he managed to run over everyone. Blake stated that he hadn’t thought that he had a chance, as Cary had been playing pretty well. However, he added that the cards had turned in his favor at one point during the game and he had started playing some great hands that overtook Cary’s lead.

Blake took part only in three events in WSOP in the last three years, and these were all senior events. He played in 2017, 2018, and 2019, and he managed to cash in every time. He added that he was an old person and that he had been playing poker for most of his life. He concluded that he felt very fortunate about winning the event.

The Final Table Results

Miles Harris was the first player to hit the rail as the ninth-place player, winning a total of $29,939. He was followed by Bruce Treitman for $38,802, and Jeffery Miller for $50,751. The sixth place belonged to Kanajett Hathaitham, who managed to win $66,987, and Rick Austin ended up on the fifth place for $89,217.
