It was held at The Bicycle and Michael Copeland became the winner for 2018, winning a great sum of $181,950. He made an impressive performance and was dominant through the whole tournament. By the end of Day 2, he managed to gain the chip lead which he had until his victory.

Copeland is a great poker player, but he did not record much cashes in his poker career. As a matter of fact, before this tournament, his live cashes were a bit over $5,000. This victory has certainly given him a good push on the list of the best poker players in the world.

Although the field was enormous and most of the people there were completely anonymous, there were some of the familiar faces that actually managed to make it to the best 124 players that continued to the second day. They are Martin Zamani, Ping Liu, Phil Laak, Chris DeMaci, Peter Neff, Layne Flack, Thomas Zanot, and Adrian Moreno. However, none of this players managed to qualify for the final table.

Copeland managed to eliminate three players by the end of the Day 2 and it is the time when he has managed to gain the chip lead which was just about 100 big blinds. The difference between him and the second biggest chip stack was enormous.

Copeland had 19 million in chips, and the second biggest number at that point was held by Jorge Pineda who had 7.2 million in chips. However, five of the players were actually under 20 big blinds so it seemed that things would end up fast on the third day.

When the final table began, Copeland still had most of the chips, and it is no wonder that his heads-up opponent was Jorge Pineda himself. When they entered the heads-up, Copeland still had the 3-1 chip lead and it seemed that he will end things up with ease. During the last hand, Pineda went all in with a bit more over 20 big blinds.

He had 10 of clubs and 9 of hearts while he was facing against Copelands Ace and Jack of clubs. Both of the players managed to flop pairs, but the Ace is always better than tens and that meant only one thing – it was time for Pineda to hit the rail and take home his reward of $120,610 – which is also not a bad figure.

With this tournament, the season for WPT500 has ended. However, there are still two more events for the main tour to be held, and WPTDeepStacks has a very tight schedule for the next couple of months.
