After the very successful World Series of Poker tournament last year, the organizers are doing their best to prepare the ground for the upcoming festival in 2020. The 2020 WSOP will start on May 26 and end on July 15. Just like every other year, it will take place at the Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino.
Thousands of poker players are expected to go to Las Vegas during that period and take part in the Main Event and many other popular poker competitions that are part of the WSOP. Although many of them are already announced, WSOP officials stated that there are more events to come.
That being said, one of the latest updates of the schedule actually took place on Jan. 15, when a whole set of events was announced, which are called “Value Menu.”
This menu basically consists of 25 events that are mainly created for players who are on a budget. The buy-in will range anywhere from $400 to $1,000.
Jack Effel, Vice President of the WSOP, stated that all players enjoy good value and that the WSOP had continued to offer such events which are at “meaningful price points.” Moreover, he added that the core objectives of the festival were exciting poker formats, new players, and huge prize pools.
Therefore, Effel concluded that the 25 events that had been presented recently are “meeting the mandate.”
Keeping The Freezeout Format Tradition
One of the events that is going to be part of the 25 Value Menu competitions is the $1,000 Freezeout No-Limit Hold ’em event. It will be the first in the series, beginning on May 27.
However, there will be at least one such event every week during the WSOP. The main reason is that WSOP officials want to make the majority of events freezeout, which is one of the main traditions of the most popular poker festival in the world.
In fact, 24 out of 25 Value Menu events will be freezeout. However, one event will be an exception, and that’s a charitable Little One for One Drop, which will require a buy-in of $1,000 + $111.
All players taking part in it will be allowed unlimited re-entries. Being a charity event, the Little One is an exception to the value pack.
At the moment, a total of 45 events are presented for the upcoming WSOP. Apart from the Value Pack, there will also be a couple of marquee no-limit hold ’em competitions such as Crazy Eights, Colossus and Millionaire Maker.
Of course, some traditional events that are often perceived as prestigious are also going to be part of the 2020 WSOP, such as Ladies, Seniors, Main Event, and more.
The Main Event will start on July 1 and wrap up on July 14. Last year, a total of 187,298 entries were recorded, creating the total prize pool of $293,183,345. The 51st WSOP Main Event is expected to be even bigger, and everyone with $10,000 can buy their place in.
