Tony Ruberto, who is also known as “Boston” has managed to become one of the few who won the World Poker Tour championship two times. He won WPT Maryland which was held at Maryland Live! Casino and managed to win a total sum of $344,755. There were a total of 554 entrants at this event. The first WPT that Ruberto won was back in 2011 as he emerged victorious at 2011 WPT Jacksonville and won $325,928.

This is definitely a good year for Tony Ruberto as he managed to cash out more than a million from live tournaments only in 2018. Some of the notable amounts of cash he won include partypoker MILLIONS North America Main Event where he won the third place and $781,018, and WPT Choctaw where he was fourth with $166,605.
WPT Maryland paid the first 70 players, and some of the names who made it to the money list are Paul Volpe, Maria Ho, Erkut Yilmaz, Kelly Minkin, and Bryan Piccioli.
Let’s go straight to the final table. The first player to go out was Mark Sandness who went all in with 1,355,000. He lost to Ruberto who had ace-king while Sandness had ace-nine. After that, he had to hit the rail at $69,609. The next one to follow was Aaron Pinson with $91,230, and the fourth place was taken by Will Givens who had given a lot of hard times to the opponents but eventually failed. Givens won $121,112.
This left the first three players to remain in the game. The interesting thing happened between Ruberto and Ausmus. At one point, in the three-handed play, Ruberto took a brave step and chipped up to 17 million from his previous bet of 9 million. At that point, there were 22 million in play. After 30 hands of play, Ruberto used this when he had a double pair of eights and fives. The river was expected, and Ausmus failed to meet another nine in order to make a three of a kind with his double nines in his hand. At that point, Ruberto had 18 million against Pillai’s 4 million that happened at 40,000/80,000/80,000.
This was the way things started in the heads-up battle between Ruberto and Pillai. However, it was not an easy battle at all, as Pillai managed to play a couple of great hands only to take the lead from Ruberto.
Then the heads up started to become a long battle where a total of 179 hands were played before Ruberto finally managed to find the flush on the river and end the whole thing by beating Pillai.
The tournament was filled with the unexpected turns, and the heads-up was still exciting despite the fact that it took so long to finish. After all, both Ruberto and Pillai are extraordinary poker players who have a great strategy in this card game.
