Sandretto Wins Rolling Thunder Championship

Benjamin Juhasz and Zhen Cai Win Titles at the PokerGO Tour PLO Series II

The World Poker Tour continues to host a number of live poker tournaments throughout the country, and some of the biggest names in the industry sign up to play. That was the case again this week as the WPT Rolling Thunder Championship was held at the Thunder Valley Casino.

The biggest event at this tournament was a $3,500 buy-in event, and it was one that attracted some of the biggest names in this sport. By the time that all of the hands were played, Casey Sandretto was the player that came out on top.

After winning this massive event, Sandretto was quick to compliment the Thunder Valley Casino and the World Poker Tour. He isn’t a player that enters into many events throughout the year, but it wasn’t a huge shock to see him have some success.

By winning this event, Sandretto was able to take home over $246,000 and he more than doubled all the money he has ever made while playing live poker. Sandretto is a local poker player, and he might be getting into bigger events after cashing in with this title.

The next major event on the WPT Tour will be held at the Seminole Hard Rock Casino in Florida, but it’s unclear if Sandretto will play. If he does decide to go for another title, he is going to be a name to watch in that event.

Impressive Top-Six List

Not only was this win improbable for Sandretto based on previous success, but it was even more improbable when looking at the other players that competed. There were a ton of former winners on the WPT Tour in the field, but Sandretto was able to get by all of them for the title.

Michael Kinney finished in second place in this event, and he took home $235,000 for his efforts. Travis Egbert and Yunkyu Song were in third and fourth place respectively, and they combined for $245,000 in prize money.

Cody Wiegmann and Brock Wilson rounded out the top-six finishers, and it was a who’s who of poker players that were at the final table. Even though Sandretto was able to get to the final table in good shape, his win was still extremely unexpected based on his opponents.

Some Great Action

Yunkyu Song has to be kicking himself after finishing in fourth place in this event as it looked like he had the title wrapped up. Heading into the final day of action, Song had more than half of the chips that were available between the top six players.

Song continues to be aggressive at the final table, but he caught some unlucky breaks along the way and wound up bowing out much earlier than expected. Brock Wilson has won over $7 million throughout his career, but he only ended up in sixth place at this event.

Sandretto was actually staring at a massive deficit when there were just three players left, but he was able to make some impressive calls to get back into the picture. That momentum never went away as he was able to ride that wave to a title.
