Robert Grossglauser beat 725 entrants in the $1,700 World Series of Poker Circuit (WSOPC) Thunder main event to win $205,203 and his first WSOPC gold ring. He stated after the tournament that the three days were tough for him as he was in the 25th position when he advanced to Day 2.
The poker pro waited for appropriate cards and spots to make moves. He didn’t concentrate on the pay jumps and was focused throughout the tournament. The money bubble didn’t bother him. Instead, he played his best hands.
Grossglauser’s approach paid off as he entered the event with slightly more than $27,000 in poker tournament earnings, according to The Hendon Mob. His previous largest score was in the 2015 WSOP Main Event, when he won $15,000 after finishing in the 880th position.
The player earned 912 Card Player Player of the Year (POY) points besides getting the first-place prize and title in his latest victory. Still, it was the first POY-qualified score in his lifetime, and it improved his position in the 2022 POY race to among the top 500 players.
The tournament lasted for four days and had two starting flights. Most famous players were among the top 109 entrants to cash in, including Maxwell Young (seven-time ring champion), Allen Kessler (three-time ring champion), Viet Vo (two-time ring champion), Cedrric “Poker Traveler” Trevino, Tyler Patterson (World Poker Tour and bracelet champion), Andreas Kniep and Christina Gollins.
Grossglauset was in the 26th position when he advanced to Day 2. Yet, he was the stack leader when the day ended, competing for the title with 13 other players.

Action on the Final Day
Altynai Fung was the stack leader when the nine-handed official table was set while Grossglauser led the leaderboard. Brian Battistone’s run ended in ninth place with $19,289 after a pair of preflop coolers sent him packing. Kristen Deardorff followed him in eighth place.
Phaly Nou’s J-4 offsuit faced Randall Chamberlain’s pocket aces and he finished seventh. Michael Loncar used pocket sevens to move all-in after a few minutes and trailed Jared Smith’s pocket nines. The former failed to improve and left the table in sixth place.
Grossglauser’s pocket aces beat Paul Richardson’s A-Q in a preflop race. Richardson got a significant lead from an ace-high flop that he maintained on the turn. Yet, Grossglauser got a set from a six on the river and won the pot, thus sending Richardson packing in fifth place.
Altynai Fung got busted in fourth place after a fierce battle of the blinds. Chamberlain used A-8 suited to make a small blind shove, while Fung used K-8 suited to move eight big blinds all-in.
Smith put his remaining chips all in as his A-Q dominated Grossglauser’s A-6. The latter got the lead from a flop’s six, and he maintained it through the river, while the former finished third with $93,657. His elimination granted Grossglauser an over 8:1 stack lead over Chamberlain as they clashed in heads-up action.
Chamberlain held ADiamond SuitJClub Suit while Grossglauser held ASpade Suit2Spade Suit after all chips got in preflop. But, the board ran out 7Club Suit6Diamond Suit2Heart Suit3Club Suit7Spade Suit, and Grossglauser got deuces and sevens while Chamberlain finished second with $128,828.
