This week, poker players headed to Punta Cana to take part in the 2017 Caribbean Poker Party Festival. The tournament series is part of the Party Poker LIVE and features events running from the 19th of November until the 25th. The total amount of guaranteed prize money up for grabs is $10 million with one event having already finished up, offering a $1 million guarantee.
The $1m guaranteed $10,300 MILLIONS High Roller event was one of the first tournaments on the schedule, offering players the opportunity to compete in a massive event. Once registration was complete, 103 players were at the felt, hoping to claim the big win. In the end, it was Preben Stokkan who finished first, claiming the title of champion.
The final table would see a few players have short stacks and quickly be eliminated. Jonathan Little was able to score a double knockout with Felipe Ramos exiting in 9th place and Sean Winter in 8th. Steffen Sontheimer would exit in 7th before the remaining players were eliminated to leave the game in heads-up play.
Once the tournament whittled down to the final two players, it would be Stokkan and Jonathan Little competing in heads-up. Stokkan would hold the chip lead and on the final hand of the tournament, decide to go all-in on the button. Little would call and both players would show their hands. Stokkan held A-5 while Little would hold pocket threes. The board fell K-4-2-7-3 with the 3 giving Little a set but Stokkan would earn straight, giving him the first-place win.
