Players Question Amaya Gaming/PokerStars Acquisition; PokerStars Responds

DE gamblingAs the announcement of the Amaya Gaming acquisition of PokerStars ran everywhere online from message boards to news sites, players began to wonder what this meant for them. PokerStars has an extremely large player base and the future of the site was in question by many players. According to a recent report by PokerNewsDaily, a thread on the TwoPlusTwo forums had a public statement from a representative of the site to shed light on player concerns.

Steve Day is the Director of Poker Room Operators for PokerStars and late this past Friday, Day made a statement on the poker forums. A big concern of players seems to be the Canadian market. Many worry that because Amaya Gaming is based in Canada that there will be issues as in the past legal problems have come about with companies who were not government owned operating in the country.

Day stated that there will be no impact on player experience and that all current markets will be served as normal, including Canada. The company will also continue to work to grow the game on a global scale. Day then began to discuss the US market. PokerStars has been trying for some time to enter into the US market but has been unable to do so. The company was unable to obtain a license for internet gaming due to the legal history including the co-founders who were listed in the indictments from black Friday.

However, now that the company is owned by Amaya, they should be able to move back into the US. Amaya is actually licensed to operate in the state of New Jersey. Day stated in the forum that the company is excited at the potential to be licensed in New Jersey and then begin to serve players there quickly. Day did not have a time frame but he did believe the purchase by Amaya would have a significant and positive impact.

Players were also worried about customer service quality would be lacking but Day told players not to worry. Day said the culture and values of the company remain and that the leadership team is in place and can assure the values of the company will continue to provide top quality customer service.

Day did say that there would be changes in customer service as several projects are in the works, including PokerStars 7. Players were also concerned about the mention of other gambling options with Amaya including casino, social and sportsbook gaming. In the TwoPlusTwo thread there was mention of slides from an Amaya presentation which reference the other gaming options. Day said Full Tilt Poker does have casino gaming now so it is not a surprise that this type of gaming would be referenced as an area that could have potential growth.
