Shared Player Pools Not Happening Yet in New Jersey

new jersey flagMany changes have taken place in the gambling industry of New Jersey over the past year and even more changes may or may not be coming in 2015. Earlier this year, it was reported that officials in the state were in discussions with sharing player pools in the United Kingdom as well as possibly in Nevada. While many thought the state might begin working with others this year, the Director of the Division of Gaming Enforcement David Rebuck, stated in an interview that no deal is imminent with the UK or Nevada.

Rebuck was interviewed by the Associated Press and stated that although officials have been in discussions with Nevada and the UK on the subject of shared player pools, no deal is imminent. According to the report, Rebuck stated that the goal for the second year of operation is to increase the player pools for online gaming with such games as poker.

Nevada and Delaware already created an agreement which would see online poker liquidity sharing and left the agreement option open for other states including New Jersey. If New Jersey got in on the action, all three states could share player pools.

Rebuck also discussed that for the state, the online gambling industry has been a mixed bag for 2014. The state has seen some victories and some losses. Rebuck stated he feels that New Jersey has done well from a regulatory standpoint. On the negative, the state was projected to be a stronger performer financially.

Besides the shared player pools, the state has also been part of discussions on the subject of PokerStars. For months, PokerStars has been trying to launch in the state but has seen setback after setback. The brand was expected to launch in October but has yet to go live. In the report with Rebuck, the Director stated that the review of Amaya, PokerStars new owner, is still under review and would most likely not be completed until early 2015, at best.
