Phil Hellmuth Wins $800,000 After Beating Scott Seiver in High Stakes Duel III Round 4

Phil Hellmuth increased his 9-1 High Stakes Duel record on Tuesday night after he beat Scott Seiver in High Stakes Duel III Round 4. Both players put up $400,000 and Hellmuth won an $800,000 prize. Still, Seiver has an opportunity to match that prize if he wants to face Hellmuth in Round 5 and another opponent can take his place if he isn’t interested as Hellmuth has to win another match to cash out.

Still, he can make a cash out if no one else wants to challenge him in another round. Seiver advanced to PokerGO Studio, at the ARIA Resort & Casino shortly after Tom Dwan backed out last week. The former beat Hellmuth in the second round and lost in the third one.

High Stakes Duel III Round 4 Action

Nick Schulman was “The Weigh-In’s” host. But, Seiver and Hellmuth started playing with $400,000 each. They took turns to hold the stack lead as Hellmuth got more aggressive. He placed a three-bet for the third consecutive time while holding {9-Clubs}{5-Hearts} as Seiver used {a-Clubs}{5-Clubs} to call.

The two players checked a {k-Diamonds}{7-Clubs}{7-Diamonds}flop as Hellmuth wagered 48,000 on an {8-Hearts}turn. A {3-Diamonds} turned up on the river when Seiver called and Hellmuth wagered 120,000. This made Seiver suspicious and he opted to give up a 290,000 pot that granted Hellmuth a stack lead.

Seiver made an 11,000 raise using {k-Diamonds}{9-Clubs} after a few minutes and called as Hellmuth made another three-bet to 38,000. Both of them checked the {2-Clubs} turn and {3-Spades}{2-Spades}{q-Spades} flop. The {q-Hearts} doubled the board of the river while Hellmuth used ace-high to wager 23,000 as Seiver paid off with king-high.

This enabled Hellmuth to win a 120,000 pot and get an over 2:1 stack lead. Brent Hanks stated that the pot victory shocked Seiver and he didn’t expect Hellmuth to value bet an ace-high on the board.

Hellmuth had 600,000 against Seiver’s 200,000 through 200 hands. Yet, Seiver won several pots before a queen-versus-jacks cooler favored him. Both players got in preflop and Seiver doubled to 476,000 as Hellmuth’s chips reduced to 324,000.

Hellmuth used {10-Diamonds}{9-Spades} to three-bet and triggered Seiver to use {a-Spades}{10-Clubs} to call. The former went on for 44,000 on a {4-Spades}{a-Hearts}{9-Clubs} flop that paired them. Seiver saw the {3-Diamonds} turn after calling.

The action was check-check as the {q-Spades} completed the board. Hellmuth wagered 22,000 as Seiver called and claimed a 216,000 pot. He got a 3:1 stack lead.

Hellmuth’s Victory

Hellmuth put up a spirited fight and reclaimed his stack lead thus being the match’s 21st chip lead change. This made Seiver’s big blinds drop to 10 before he got a crucial double.

The event became the longest in the history of High Stakes Duel in Level 12 (8,000/16,000) and it exceeded the High Stakes Duel II Hand No. 327 in Round I between Daniel Negreanu and Hellmuth. Seiver wagered 16,000 on a {2-Spades}{10-Clubs}{3-Spades} flop and used {10-Diamonds}{6-Hearts} to flop a top pair. Unfortunately, Hellmuth used {3-Spades}{2-Hearts} to smash Seiver’s flop and made a 60,000 raise.

Seiver went all in with 226,000 while Hellmuth made a quick call. The former got extra outs from the {q-Spades} turn but they excluded the {5-Spades} river. Hellmuth clapped, hugged Seiver, and informed him that he enjoyed playing with him the most.
