The first event of the 2020 Borgata Winter Poker Open has come to an end. The Event No. 1: $600 Deepstack Kick-Off offered a total of $2 million in guaranteed prizes and lasted for three days. The event gave poker lovers a lot too, as it included poker-packed action all day long.
A total of 4,375 people applied for the event, and, in the end, it was a player from Manhattan, NY, Zarko Mandic, who won the first prize. Mandic took home a total of $342,967. Apart from winning a lucrative prize, Mandic also received a prestigious Borgata trophy, which is awarded to successful players in this tournament.
Mandic is not really an experienced poker player, but judging by his success at the event, he is definitely a talented one. He started his poker career only about a year ago, playing mostly events in Atlantic City.
Before taking down the Deepstack Kick-Off event, he had a total of $15,000 from poker earnings, meaning this event brought him his first big poker prize.
The winner admitted in the interview that he had some experience in playing poker that dates back to his college days. However, he explained that he had played mostly Five-Card Draw, which is not quite the same as the type of game he played in Borgata.
Nevertheless, some basic principles are the same, and that can be considered a good basis for the further development of poker skills.
According to Mandic, Five-Card Draw poker was basically based around bluffing, which is something he mastered during his college days. Therefore, he stated that he basically bluffed his way to victory.
Although he had more than two million in chips at the start of the final table, he was going through ups and downs until he decided to use the aggressive style he learned back in college.
The Final Table Results — Who Else Was Successful?

Getting to this stage by being better than more than 4,000 people is always a success, so it’s only natural to feel excited to be in this part of the event.
The first player to hit the rail was Patrick Luu, who won $27,500. He was soon followed by a Canadian player named Ryan Teixeira, who took home a total of $42,945.
Jerry Maher from New Jersey ended up seventh, while Leonard Sande from Connecticut was sixth. The two players won $59,582 and $83,644, respectively.
Another player from Connecticut, Kirkwood Saccardo, was fifth for $108,852. Fourth and third place were occupied by two Canadians. Brian Morgan finished in fourth place, winning $135,206, and Constantinos Psallidas ended up third for $164,539.
The heads-up play did not last very long, as the two remaining players made a deal. That way, Ricardo Eyzaguirre from Florida took home $290,000, and Mandic won the event.
