The PokerGO Tour Mixed Series is currently taking place in Las Vegas, and it’s an event that has attracted some terrific players. There will be a total of 10 events throughout this series, and seven of them have already been completed.
This series gives players a chance to compete in many different forms of poker, allowing the best players to choose what suits them best. It was event seven that was played in a “dealer’s choice” format that attracted some of the best players the sport has to offer.
With a $10,200 buy-in for this event, there were just 47 players in the field. Daniel Negreanu and Phil Hellmuth were two of the biggest names that signed up to compete, and both of those players made it to the final table.
Philip Sternheimer was able to come away with the win in this tournament, and he got it done in comeback fashion.
Negreanu Can’t Hang On
Daniel Negreanu had a year to forget in 2023 as he lost nearly $2 million in live poker tournaments alone. The World Series of Poker was where things really fell apart for the Hall of Fame poker player, but he vowed to make a triumphant return in 2024.
After winning a tournament in January, Negreanu was looking for another win in 2024 at this dealer’s choice event. Negreanu actually entered the second day with the chip lead, and he was responsible for sending a number of players home.
There were just five players that started the second day, and Hellmuth didn’t last long as he took home $37,000 with a fifth place finish. Maxx Coleman didn’t last long after Negreanu as he took home nearly $50,000 with a fourth place finish.
After Adam Friedman ended his run in third place, Negreanu had a massive chip lead over Sternheimer in heads up play. Players continued to choose different styles of games and traded chips, but Sternheimer was able to deliver the final blow.
After choosing stud hi-low, Sternheimer came away with a huge hand in order to claim the massive prize of $164,500. This was the seventh event of this massive series, and some bigger tournaments are still to be played.
There were actually seven places that got paid out in this tournament, but the total pot was not as big as it had been for some other tournaments.
Really a Mixed Bag
The PokerGO Tour hosts a number of events throughout the year, and they are typically played in just one style of poker. That’s not the case at the mixed series as there have already been three different types of poker played.
H.O.R.S.E. is another popular game when it comes to the PokerGO Tour, and Mori Eskandani took home over $200,000 in event number three. The first two events in this series came with a buy-in of just $5,100, and that kept the payouts much lower than this event.
Players are also competing for PGT Player of the Year points, and those can add up by the end of the year.
