The Water Conservation Rule Doesn’t Affect Las Vegas Casino Resorts’ Swimming Pools

Las Vegas residents will soon be required to construct residential swimming pools that don’t exceed 600 square feet. But, the county rule change doesn’t affect huge outdoor pool complexes which have significantly redefined the city as more than a betting destination.

Local officials won’t impact casino resort pools to limit the size of their new residential pools from September 1, 2022. The Strip has iconic pool complexes as its outdoor facilities are ideal for resting and holding fully equipped parties with pools, DJs, and cabana service.

Nevada is facing a historic drought that has prompted its lawmakers to intensify their water conservation measures. For instance, the Lake Mead reservoir which the Colorado River sources is gradually reducing its water level.

Clark County’s commissioners passed legislation this week that will start being implemented on September 1, 2022. It will limit new residential pools’ size to that of a three-car garage.

Even so, the rule won’t impact future or existing casino pools. Southern Nevada is reported to have almost 3,000 commercial pools that accompany hotels, casino resorts, housing committees, and motels which the Clark County ruling won’t affect.

Water Saving in the Region

The Southern Nevada Water Authority advised Clark County to pass the new residential pool law. It will limit the wastage of water in residential swimming pools and is reported to be the first conservation rule in the country.

Outdoor pools currently have daily temperatures of about 100 degrees Fahrenheit and are reported to lose 23,000 gallons of water each year through evaporation. Also, the Southern Nevada Water Authority claims that limiting future residential pools’ size will save the region 3.2 million gallons of water in a year.

This is a small portion of almost 91 billion gallons of water that the area fetches from the Lake Mead reservoir annually. Dustin Watters, who partly owns Watters Aquatech claims that the firm will suffer as it has installed residential pools for about four decades.

He informed the Associated Press reporters that showing photos of cozy swimming pools isn’t a difficult task. Kevin Kraft, an entrepreneur who builds residential pools, backed Watters’ claim adding that the county should not blame customized swimming pools and lap pools.

Kraft said that the rule will prevent tycoons from installing big pools. Yet most realtors spend a lot of time working on custom homes’ swimming pools as they are crucial in their designs.

Clark County commissioners claimed that it is important to save any amount of water. John Entsminger, Southern Nevada Water Authority’s General Manager, stated that water scarcity is Nevada’s major concern now and in the future. He added that no one questions South Florida’s building codes for hurricanes or San Francisco’s building codes for earthquakes yet water scarcity is Southern Nevada’s natural disaster.

Is Nevada a Desert Oasis?

Mandalay Bay‘s Mandalay Beach is among the most renowned outdoor pools in Las Vegas. The casino has an 11-acre outdoor playground that its 1.6-million-gallon wave pool highlights. The bay has Daylight Beach Club and the adults Moorea Beach Club which are extra pool attractions.
