PCA Super High Roller Player Donates Winnings to Sandy Hook Victims

Greg Jensen is the CEO of Bridgewater Associates and one of many who visited the Bahamas to participate in the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure tournament series. Jensen participated in the $100,000 Super High Roller Event and managed to do quite well against 46 opponents and earn a sixth place finish. For the win, Jensen earned $286,200 and decided to donate the entire prize to the victims of Sandy Hook, the horrific school shooting which took place in Newtown, CT just a few weeks ago.

The tournament had a buy-in of $100,000 and saw 47 players competing. Most of those participating were professional players and the odds were stacked against Jensen. However, he was able to make the final table and earn the sixth place prize. Jensen is an amateur poker player and has played mostly for fun in his younger years. Jensen earned the chance to play in the PCA High Roller event after he was given the gift of the entry for his birthday.

Surprisingly, Jensen started final table play fourth in chips and would last for some time until his Kings were not enough to take on Nick Schulman’s hand and he was out in sixth place. In the end, Scott Seiver would earn the first place win after defeating Doc Sands in heads up play. But it was Jensen’s generosity that was the highlight of the tournament.

Jensen started the Bridgewater company while he was at Dartmouth and in just a few years, the company has grown considerably and Jensen is known as one of the best hedge fund managers in the industry. The company is based in Westport, CT, so the Sandy Hook event hit very close to home with Jensen. The gift was definitely a generous one and will hopefully relieve some of the financial strain that the families are facing after the horrible tragedy.

It is not uncommon for poker players to be generous to charities or for events that happen across the globe where people are in need of assistance. However, it is a rare occasion that an amateur player competes in such an expensive event and ends up placing well, not to mention giving away all of the prize money. So major props to Greg Jensen and his poker play as well as his generosity!
