One Pro, One Amateur to Compete for 2013 WSOP Main Event Title

wsopJust yesterday the 2013 World Series of Poker final table was underway and members of the exclusive “November Nine” went to war to see who would lay claim to bracelet and over $8.3 million.

After a couple hundred hands and final table favorites Mark Newhouse and JC Tran going out early, the Main Event will officially conclude this evening with Ryan Reiss and Jay Farber going at it heads up for the title.

Reiss will hold 85.675 million when play returns and Farber will have a small lead with 105 million. The play will resume with blinds at 500k/1m and an ante of 150k, which means that anything could happen with the chips stacks being so close.

It will also feature a classic battle between the pro (Reiss) and the amateur (Farber).

If you’ve been watching ESPN’s Main Event coverage, then many of you already know that Jay Farber is a popular club promoter in the Las Vegas area and plays poker recreationally. On the flip side, Ryan Reiss is a young poker pro who has cruised through the latter days of the WSOP’s biggest tournament.

Reiss was able to knock Amir Lehavot out in 3rd with pocket tens to move final table play to the heads up round. Lehavot would not go home empty handed though as third place earned a nice $3.7 million cash prize.

JC Tran was the favorite to win this year, was knocked out in fifth. Speaking with the Associated Press, Tran stated that he was not 100% happy with the way he played but he had seen many rough hands and it was tough to overcome the weak hands he was dealt.

So now we wait until this evening and the action begins again. Farber hit the club in celebration and was not going to let the WSOP hype get to him, so it will be interesting to see that if after a night of celebrating, if the amateur will be able to hold on and extend his lead or if Reiss will give him a run for his money!
