Naoya Kihara Wins First WSOP Bracelet in Event #34

Event #34 of the 2012 World Series of Poker has concluded and the $5,000 Pot Limit Omaha-Six-Handed event saw a small field of just 419 players competing. The event would run over a three day period and in the end it would be Naoya Kihara of Japan who earned the title win. Kihara’s win signified his first WSOP bracelet as well as the first time a player from Japan won a WSOP event.

Kihara would dominate this event, taking the chip lead about halfway through Day 2 and holding on to it fiercely. Kihara was on a roll and he would not stop until every player was eliminated and he was the only one left standing.

The final day of play would see eleven players returning and Kihara still held on the chip lead. One player who was supposed to compete in the final day was Kevin MacPhee. MacPhee apparently was in an accident and was running late. Unhurt, MacPhee would sit down at the table only to be eliminated a short time later.

A few more eliminations would take place until seven players remained. These seven would be moved to the Pavilion to play out the rest of the event.

Jason DeWitt, Tommy Le Davidi Kitai, Hans Winzeler and Daniel Hindin would be eliminated, in that order, to leave Chris De Maci and Kihara in heads up play. Kihara would of course hold the chip lead as he had for the past few days. Heads up play would last only thirty minutes as De Maci could not seem to take any chips from Kihara.

The final hand would see Kihara raise from the button and De Maci would call. The flop showed 2-A-J and De Maci would check raise to 550,000 and Kihara would put De Maci all in with the 450,000 left in his stack.

Kihara would hold K-J-6-Q to hold a pair of Jacks while De Maci would hold 5-4-3-2 for a straight shot. However, the board came 6-7 which gave Kihara two pair and the win.
