MI Online Poker Market Narrows the Gap With PA, Could the Next Largest Poker Market in the Country

New Jersey is no longer the king of the online poker market. This is after the Michigan online poker market generated more earnings for four consecutive months than the Garden State.

The online poker market in Michigan is also narrowing the gap with Pennsylvania. If the growth trend continues, the Mitten State will become the largest poker market in the country.

Earlier last month, the gaming control board in Mitten State reported the state’s monthly revenue for June. According to the Michigan Gaming Control Board, the state generated slightly over $121 million from online casinos and poker. This was a 4.6 percent decrease from the previous month when the revenue was slightly over $127 million.

While this figure represents a combined revenue, the cash game traffic provided more context about the possible revenue generated from poker games. Also, the population of Michigan, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey also gave a clearer picture of how much online poker might have generated.

Michigan Online Poker Revenue and Estimates

GameIntel has been monitoring and providing cash game traffic data. Recently, it released a report on legalized online poker rooms in Michigan. It shows that Michigan generated $2.4 million in June, a 4.9 percent less from the previous month, which was $2.5 million.

The data shows Michigan also performed better in April, generating around $2.7 million. Going by these estimates, Michigan has performed better than New Jersey since March. The Garden State poker revenue for March was $2.5 million, around $2.29 million in April, a little over $2.3 million in May, and $2.2 million in June.

Meanwhile, the Mitten State is getting close to closing the gap with Pennsylvania. The Keystone State generated $2.6 million in June, a 7.5 percent decline from May, where it earned $2.8 million. Reports show that Michigan had around $334,000 less income than Pennsylvania in May and reduced to $245,000 in June.

If Michigan follows the trend, closing the gap between it and the Keystone State every month, it could be the largest online poker market by September. Poker Industry PRO has also provided exclusive data to its subscribers.

The report shows PokerStars Michigan recorded 141 cash game seats on June 30, 2022. Meanwhile, BetMGM Poker Michigan recorded 65 while WSOP MI had 57 seats on June 30.
