Lisa Hamilton Earns First WSOP Bracelet

Event #17 of the World Series of Poker was the Ladies No Limit Hold’em tournament and just over one thousand women registered to compete in the event. Several pros turned out for the event including Svetlana Gromenkova, J.J. Liu and Erica Schoenberg but it would be Lisa Hamilton who would outlast the field and take down her first WSOP win. Amazingly it was one of her first ever live tournaments.

A native of Hawaii, Hamilton was introduced to the tournaments by her friend Bertrand “ElkY” Grospellier. Hamilton usually played only cash games but this year she decided to give the WSOP a go. When final table play began a huge crowd had gathered in the Amazon room and people were cheering and screaming for the competitors.

Angel Pedroza looked good during final table play and it seemed she would finish strong but after dropping a good bit of chips to Hamilton, she was knocked out in fourth place. Hamilton then took over the tournament and three handed play lasted only thirty minutes before Hamilton took her place as the winner.

Hamilton would have to face Lori Bender in heads up play before claiming her first WSOP bracelet. In the final hand Bender went all in with a middle pair and Hamilton called which would send Bender packing in second place for $120,575.
