There were no Girl Scout cookies being purchased today, in fact no one is selling anything at all. The truth of the matter is you may just go home empty handed, however, win or lose, players participating in the second annual Ice House Texas Hold’em Poker Tournament to benefit the Boys and Girls Club of Club of Benton County located in Bentonville Arkansas. The tournament was held last Saturday and included just about 100 poker players from the community.
Poker tournaments are increasing across the United States as an exciting alternative to candies and wrapping paper as a viable fund raising option. Raising monies for children’s hospitals, veterans organizations, and as in this case, the Boys and Girls Club.
The players didn’t win cash as they might in an online poker tournament, or the World Series of Poker, they won prizes. Two of the prizes awarded included a trip to Vegas, to play in the World Series of Poker. Second place, a 42 inch high definition television, also in the charity poker tournaments list of prize pool goodies was a laptop computer, all donated by Best Buy.
There was a cash winner at the end of the game though, according to NWANews.com the Benton County Boys and Girls Club, currently helping as many as 8,000 kids in the county annually took home the ‘real’ first place prize, $15,000.
Best Buy was just one of the events sponsors, World Series of Poker sponsor, Degree underarm deodorant, who coined the phrase ‘degree all in moment’ when they sponsored their first WSOP tournament also held it down for the boys and girls aid club.
“It’s on a much smaller scale here and it’s all for a great organization, but our company didn’t think twice about sponsoring this event,” said Bob Hrin
Other charity poker tournament sponsors included Eureka Pizza, Abuelo’s, Zaxby’s, Eureka Pizza, and Coors.
