The online version of the World Series of Poker finally hosted its first championship event, which was Event $43: $10,000 Short Deck No-Limit Hold’em Championship. The event recorded a total of 130 entries, and Lev Gottlieb was the one to celebrate in the end, winning the first gold bracelet. On top of that, Gottlieb managed to win a nice sum – $276,393.
There isn’t enough info about the bracelet winner. There are no live cashes related to this poker player, which means that this was also the first gold bracelet for the player. But from what we know, this may be the first poker cash for Gottlieb, too, since there are no official results about “LevMeAlone,” which is their online nickname.
The event started with just 20 players, and some of the early players were Felipe Ramos, Christopher Brewe, Thai Ha, and Jason Koon. Thai Ha managed to achieve a significant result last year after finishing a runner up in Short Deck Championship.
The event allowed a four-hour late registration period, and the field then started growing. When the registration was closed, there were a total of 130 entries, which is 16 more compared to the 2019 Short Deck Championship. They created the prize pool of $1,261,000, and the top 17 players had an opportunity to win a part of it.
Some players who failed to make it to the final table are Lucas and Sam Greenwood, Isaac Haxton, Michael Watson, Martin Zamani, George Wolff, Joao Vieira, Sergey Lebedev, Jesus Cortes, and Danny Trang. The event bubbled three hours in play after the registration period was closed.
Ramos seemed like someone who would run deep, but it turned out that he just burst the bubble when he lost to Nobuaki Sasaki, a Japanese grinder and Japan High Roller Festival organizer.
The Final Table Results
After the bubble burst, it didn’t take long for the final table to start. At that point, three more players hit the rail – Ami Barer, Carl Schrader, and Bjorn Li. All of them went out pretty quickly, but the play started to slow down when only six players remained.
The player who had to leave the game as sixth-placed was Chi Zhang, who managed to win $70,397. After that, it was time for Dan “oiltrader” Shak from the US to wave goodbye to the rest of the group, winning $92,545 for his effort.
Sasaki, who won the hand against Ramos, turned out to be quite successful, as he made it to the fourth place in this event and won a total of $121,659.
Sergi Reixach was the last player to hit the rail before the heads-up play could start. The popular poker professional managed to earn $159,933 as the third-placed player.
The last opponent that Gottlieb had to face was Mikita Badtiakouski, the famous Belarus short deck player. However, his poker prowess wasn’t enough to face Gottlieb’s fantastic run, so he had to settle for the consolation prize of $210,249.
