Casinos in Detroit to Reopen at 15%

The three casinos in Detroit will be allowed to operate once again after the COVID-19-related shutdown that made the close their doors a couple of months ago. Governor of Michigan, Gretchen Whitmer, decided to make several changes to the COVID-19 requirements issued by the state, allowing casinos to reopen at 15% capacity. On top of that, all casinos will have to follow the strict health and safety guidelines released proposed in the requirements.

The coronavirus pandemic shut down land-based casinos all over the world, and the ones in Detroit were not an exemption. They have been closed for more than three months, during which the casino industry in Michigan suffered a heavy blow. However, this was a necessary step to take, as the state of Michigan was among the hardest-hit by the coronavirus pandemic. That’s one of the reasons why this state took more time to begin the reopening process.

The three casinos that will open their doors to the visitors once again are MGM Grand, MotorCity Casino Hotel, and Greektown Casino Hotel. The venues now wait for the official reopening date to be announced so that they could plan how they will get back to work.

Health Requirements for Casinos in Detroit

Apart from being instructed to operate at 15% capacity, the casinos will have to adhere to many other regulations, the most important one being a mandatory face mask. Moreover, all casino visitors and casino employees will have to wear a face mask while inside the casino. The only time they will be allowed to remove the mask while inside the casino is when they eat or drink. Smoking has been banned in casinos in Detroit, so that’s another problem out of the way.

Any person who decides to enter one of the casinos will have to undergo a health screening procedure, meaning everyone will have their temperature checked upon the entrance. Moreover, the casinos will have to provide hand sanitizers at every corner. Moreover, they will have to give disinfecting wipes to all employees and customers who are located inside the casino.

Casino workers will have to walk an extra mile in order to keep everything clean. In other words, all high-touch objects will have to be cleaned regularly. For example, whenever someone finishes playing slots, one of the workers will have to disinfect the machine before the next customer sits. Moreover, all slot machines will have to be six feet apart, and plexiglass barriers will have to be placed between them in order to keep the players away from each other.

Governor Whitmer stated that the casinos in Detroit should be able to operate safely once again, as many other casinos had reopened across the country, including casinos in the tribal area of Michigan.

MotorCity Casino already started preparing for the reopening date by shutting down some of their slot games and removing seats for all table games on the gaming floor to ensure the maximum possible social distancing.
