There are dozens of movies and shows related to the game of poker. Yet it seems that we need more documentaries and docuseries that will help us learn about the history of poker, its most notable players, and more.
PokerGO saw that there was a content gap and decided to make a docuseries dubbed Legends of the Game. Simply put, the series will provide an overview of the lives of the biggest legends in poker.
The first episode of the show landed on a service called PokerGO, which is a channel available to OTT subscribers. It landed on Sept. 28 and was called Benny Binion — The Story of the World Series of Poker.
There will be a new episode every Saturday for six weeks straight. Every episode will discuss some people and events that were important to the poker industry and what it is today.
Apart from discussing the life of Benny Binion, the first episode also shows the first steps taken towards making WSOP tournaments. The series will show how the game of poker became popular in the US, going back to 17th century Italy, and even discussing how Las Vegas became what it is today.
The show will also feature two poker players who share their thoughts — Stu Ungar and David “Chip” Reese.”
The Episodes
The second episode will focus on Stu Ungar and is called Stu Ungar – The Tragic Hero. This episode will land on Oct. 5.
The date for the third episode is Oct. 12, and it is called The Poker Trail – The Birth and Rise of Poker.
The fourth episode will go back to 17th century Italy to explore the roots of the game, focusing on the first-ever gambling house. It is simply called Il Ridotto – The Story of the First Casino.
The fifth episode, dubbed Mob Vegas, will discuss how the Mob used to run Vegas, and how the city became the Entertainment Capital of the World.
Finally, the sixth episode, which is called The Incomparable “Chip” Reese, will focus on the iconic poker figure and his life.
Sampson Simmons, president of Poker Central, stated that poker history has given birth to great stories that have shaped the entire gambling world. He added that the goal of the series was to tell those stories to poker fans worldwide, in a manner that had never been done before.
Therefore, if you like poker, and you want to learn more about its origins and all the great stories surrounding the game, make sure to tune in and watch the rest of the episodes. It’s a great show that covers some of the essential stories that every poker player should know.
