Jason Koon Wins $500,000 in the PokerGO Tour Championship

The 2022 PokerGO Tour (PGT) season comprised 175 tournaments with over $426 prize money and 24,998 entries. Jason Koon won a $500,000 winner-take-all freeroll in the PGT Championship. The best 21 players from the final PGT took part in the showdown.

The entrants’ final PGT point totals determined their starting chips in the event. For instance, Stephen Chidwick had 3,412 points and started with 342,000 chips.

Benny Glaser started with 165,000 chips since he had 1,646 points. The poker pro recently finished second in the World Poker Tour (WPT) World Championship.

Jason Koon’s Victory

Koon won the tournament after two days of intense action. He received the top prize and trophy. The Hendon Mob shows that he has over $41.9 million in lifetime poker tournament earnings and is the seventh player on the Card Player all-time money list.

The player’s victory came several weeks after he beat Phil Hellmuth, WSOP bracelet leader, in a huge High Stakes Duel match. Koon said that it often runs hot as the year ends. He recalled winning two 25Ks at Bellagio’s WPT in late December.

Koon entered the PGT Championship third in the chip standings after having a successful year in live high rollers. He made 18 PGT cashes, won three titles, and accrued over $6.7 million in qualified earnings. The $500,000 victory was his fourth biggest cash in 2022.

His best payday this year was when he won $1,837,500 in the Triton Series Madrid festival’s €150,000 buy-in tournament. Koon’s win made him tie with Mikita Badziakouski as the leading Triton title holder with four victories.

Koon was the stack leader late on Day 1 despite starting the tournament being the third-largest stack. Six contenders remained, and almost 57 percent of the chips were in play.

He stated after the event that, a player is likely to lose their stack lead if stacks change hands despite having all the chips for a while. Koon is determined to win the tournament and hopes to win it in less time. There were 100 big blinds when three-handed action kicked off, and he realized that he wasn’t the stack leader.

The player lost some hands and won others. Chad Eveslage got busted first on Day 2 after Koon’s flopped flush beat his lower flopped flush. Stephen Chidwick followed Eveslage after Koons Q-8 defeated his K-10.

Chidwick made a four-big blinds shove from the cutoff, and Koon made a big blind call before flopping two pair and holding to eliminate his opponent.

Winter’s Spirited Fight

Glaser’s run ended when his K-Q suited lost to Sean Winter’s A-4. The former flopped a gutshot straight draw, and the latter’s top pair held on the river thus sending Glaser packing.

Winter and Koon clashed several times. Yet, the latter dropped to the third position in the chip standings after Nick Petrangelo’s ASpade Suit3Heart Suit beat his AHeart SuitKHeart Suit.

Koon got in the second position after his trip threes beat Petrangelo’s threes. A pre-flop coin flip kicked off heads-up action, and Winter’s pocket sixes beat Petrangelo’s K-10.

The tournament’s final showdown started when Winter had a 2,035,000:1,185,000 chip advantage over Koon. Their battle lasted for almost two hours before Koon used a turned two pair to best Winter’s flopped top pair.

Koon won a huge pot after his aces full beat Winter’s but flush draw. The latter used king high to call the river. Koon increased his chip lead to over 6:1 when the final hand played.

He put Winter all-in after making a sufficient raise. Winter used JHeart Suit8Club Suit to call and dominated Koon’s 10Diamond Suit8Spade Suit.

Unfortunately, Koon got threes and tens for his victory from a 10Club Suit6Club Suit5Spade Suit3Diamond Suit3Club Suit runout. Winter didn’t win money in the winner-take-all event despite winning three PGT titles this year.
