Event #27 of the 2020 World Series of Poker Online has come to an end on Sunday night. It was a $400 No-Limit Hold’em Freezeout competition that attracted a total of 1,940 players.
The player who managed to top this event was Ian Steinman, who goes by the online moniker “ApokerJoker2,” earning $110,556 as his final prize. On top of that, he managed to win one of the most important trophies in poker — a gold bracelet.
Steinman is not a newcomer to the world of WSOP, as he was awarded the 2016 WSOP.com Online Player of the Year. Therefore, he has a lot of experience playing online poker events, especially those related to WSOP.com online.
“ApokerJoker2” managed to win a WSOP Circuit ring four times, and received a total of $654,816 in prizes only by playing WSOP-related events. This year, he managed to make it to two final tables and won 10 cashes in total.
The biggest score that Steinman managed to achieve in live poker was $201,428, after losing in the heads up of the 2018 WPT Rolling Thunder. (This was the legendary tournament where Steinman decided to fold with a set of kings against McKeehan’s bluff).
McKeehan was honest when he spoke with WSOP officials earlier this year, after winning a gold ring. He stated that his goal was to win a gold bracelet, but that it was a “strange goal to have.” This was supported by his claim that he couldn’t really control such things as much as he would have liked.
He stated that no matter how much he would like to win a gold bracelet, he wouldn’t go as far as to make it his official goal. It’s safe to say that he met his hopes instead of his goals by winning a gold bracelet in this online event.
The Final Table Results
A total of 290 players were paid out in this event, and the unlucky one to burst the bubble was Mikey Wangh. Some players who made it to the money list but didn’t make it to the final table are Ethan Yau, Jamie Kerstetter, Blake Whittington, Marjorie Davidovic, Mike Shin, Bryan Piccioli, and Shaun Deeb.
At the start of the final table, Ian Steinman was already a chip leader, so he just finished what he had started before the final table.
The first player to hit the rail was Cody Scherer for $9,009, followed by Huiwen Liu for $11,663.
The player to hit the rail in the seventh-place was Alida Veliu, who won $15,295. After that, it was time for Lokesh Garg to leave the game for $20,254.
The fifth place was reserved for Cameron Rezaie, who won $27,028, and the next one in line was Nicholas Brancato, who earned a total of $36,526 for his effort. The last player to hit the rail before the heads-up was Mahyar Ebrahimi for $49,796.
Satoshi Tanaka faced Steinman in the heads-up play but eventually had to settle for the second place and the prize of $68,373.
