Further Tournament Cancellations and Casino Shutdowns

The coronavirus is continuing to spread at a very high rate, and that affected many poker events around the globe.

That’s why many casinos closed their doors to contribute to slowing the virus down. Many organizers of poker tournaments also decided to cancel their annual events for the same reason. Let’s take a look at some of the latest news here.

Casino Shutdowns

Over the last weekend, several casinos in Las Vegas announced that they would temporarily close their doors to the visitors. Therefore, the choice of live poker options is going down significantly in the Entertainment Capital of the world.

The most important piece of news is that MGM decided to put a lock on all its properties for the time being.

This is quite a lengthy list that also includes two poker players’ favorites — Bellagio and ARIA. Apart from them, visitors cannot visit Mandalay Bay, MGM Grand, and The Mirage. The officials of MGM did not state for how long they plan to keep the casinos closed. Right now, the closures are described as indefinite.

On the other hand, Wynn and Encore properties also plan to close their doors for two weeks.

The Orleans decided to make tables five-handed, and the Venetian started with similar measures, limiting tables to three players, only to close down its poker room after that.

When it comes to Atlantic City, all casinos will be closed as the tri-state area is currently under a complete shutdown. Therefore, all properties in Connecticut and New York will also be closed.

The Governor of Mississippi also announced a shutdown, meaning that all 12 Mississippi casinos are expected to close their doors to the visitors.

Poker Tournament Postponements and Cancellations

Borgata canceled its big tournament called Spring Poker Open, which was originally scheduled for April 7.

Moreover, Indiana’s Majestic Star had planned to host an MSPT event, but that was also canceled due to the coronavirus.

Playground Poker Club was supposed to be home to WPTDeepStacks Montreal from April 16-27, but its officials also stated that it’s for the best to postpone it.

Finally, the World Series of Poker Circuit stop, which was planned to take place at Horseshoe Council Bluffs, was also canceled.

All of these closures and cancellations took place during the past couple of days, but they are nor the only ones, as many other properties had already done the same thing several days ago. We’ll inform you about the upcoming plans for poker tournaments and casinos shutdowns regularly.

Until then, stay home if you can, and try to practice social distancing. Wash your hands regularly, and sanitize your place often. If you’re feeling like playing poker, you can always sign up for some online poker rooms and play poker on the web.
