Coronavirus: Casinos Shut Down All Over The World

The COVID-19 disease is spreading like wildfire, and casino operators around the globe are doing all they can to prevent that from happening. Sadly, the only logical response is to shut down all casinos in areas that are affected.

Many agree that the world has three major casino areas, and they are Las Vegas, Macau, and Manila. Let’s take a look at how each of them approached the coronavirus situation.

Las Vegas

On Sunday, MGM Resorts issued an official statement, announcing that all casinos operated by the company are closing their doors in Las Vegas. This effectively means that all of MGM’s properties will not work until further notice. The casinos will not work as of March 17, and they will not take any reservations until May 1.

Jim Murren, CEO of MGM Resorts, stated that a public health crisis such as the one caused by the coronavirus required “major collective action” so that it would slow down spreading. He added that the plan was to open the resorts “as soon as it is safe to do so.”

Finally, Murren stated that the company would continue supporting employees, guests, and communities during the closure period.

Another company that announced closing its properties in Las Vegas in Wynn Resorts. The original plan is to close them all for a two-week period. Everyone who made reservations beyond March 17 will receive a full refund.

Macau

Unlike Las Vegas, which is yet to experience the peak decline, Macau has already gone through it after a 15-day shutdown. Macau is now healthy, but travel restrictions are still imposed in China, meaning the area could see tourists return as early as May.

Needless to say, Macau needs tourists now more than ever.

What may cause further problems, however, is the 11th case of COVID-19 that was reported after the shutdown.

Manila

At first, it seemed like Manila casinos are going to operate without interruptions, even after a community quarantine declarations. However, the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR) made an official announcement, stating that all casinos must suspend their operations as of March 15.

These three areas are the major hotspots for the casino industry, but they are not the only areas with casinos experiencing shutdowns. Casinos all over the world are closing their doors to visitors for a certain amount of time.

Even if you enjoy playing casino games, it’s advised to stay home until the whole coronavirus situation is solved.

As an alternative, many casino lovers are actively switching to online casinos, which are now booming more than ever. Although online casinos might not be able to offer you drinks, you are still going to have a lot of fun playing online slots, baccarat, blackjack, roulette, and more.

In fact, the offer of online casino games is so high that land-based casino goers will have an opportunity to explore a whole new realm of casino gaming while they are staying at home.
