It is not uncommon to see poker pros sign lucrative sponsorship deals with top online poker rooms, especially when the poker pros prove their worth at the felt. A popular poker pro can bring traffic to online poker sites and represent the poker brands in live game play. In the past, every top poker site had some type of brand ambassador or teams of poker pros who represent the site, including Full Tilt. With Full Tilt, top pros including Viktor Blom and Gus Hansen have represented the site for years. Just last week, rumors surfaced that the pros were cut from the roster and now reports state this is indeed not a rumor but truth.
According to a recent report at PokerNews, Blom and Hansen are no longer sponsored by Full Tilt. Speaking to the news site, a representative for Full Tilt confirmed that the site will no longer be sponsoring the two poker pros. Both pros were highlighted on the Full Tilt site for some time and rumors circulated that they were no longer associated with the site after pictures of each player were removed from the site.
Hansen and Blom could both be seen quite often at Full Tilt with events hosted that focused specifically on the pros. The spokesperson stated that the changes come after a yearlong review of the brand. The site will be moving away from ‘pro-centric advertising’ and begin to focus on the experience and stories of actual players rather than professional gamers.
Full Tilt plans on launching a new televised campaign that will focus on the excitement and fun of playing poker, blackjack, roulette and slots at the site, reportedly with more information on this campaign to be released later in the week. Several poker sites have decided to cut ties with pros and it seems that an entirely new landscape is about to begin when it comes to advertising and marketing for online poker rooms. It will be interesting to see if this is a new trend in online poker or if poker sponsorships are a thing of the past.
