PokerStars recently announced major changes to the European Poker Tour. The EPT has long been a popular live poker tournament option for players across Europe and PokerStars will now be changing the option altogether, with a new name and expanding beyond Europe.

The European Poker Tour will now be known as PokerStars Live and will no longer be restricted to European borders. Live events will now be part of either the PokerStars Championship category or the PokerStars Festival category. Each of these event types look like EPT events from recent past including stops in Barcelona, Panama and Monte-Carlo. The Main Event at each tournament stop will have a buy-in of $5,000.

The Festival tournament events will be smaller in size and will take place over a week timeframe. The main event will conclude each stop with a buy-in of $1,000 to $1,500. Only two tour stops have been confirmed by PokerStars thus far including London and Atlantic City.

Eric Hollreiser, the Director of Corporate Communications for PokerStars, stated that the brand is committed to growing the poker market in New Jersey and part of this strategy is to help make New Jersey the poker hub of America in November, which is when the tour will be heading to Atlantic City.

Hollreiser stated that PokerStars is inviting players from across the globe to come to the “Garden State” to take part in the best live poker experience available in the world, live and online, with the first ever NJCOOP starting ahead of the Festival.

The PokerStars Festival New Jersey will include a Main Event with a buy-in of $1,100 as well as a High Roller tournament with a buy-in of $2,200. Several Team PokerStars Pros will be in attendance during the Festival including Jason Somerville, Barry Greenstein, Daniel Negreanu and Vanessa Selbst.

The first Championship event will take place in January with the PokerStars Championship Bahamas. This event known as the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure in the past. The dates for the Championship are from the 6th to the 14th of January.

Online qualifiers will be running at PokerStars for both the Festival and Championship events.
