DOJ Hiring Payment Processor To Help With Full Tilt Poker US Payments

The Department of Justice apparently needs help with the payment processing for US players who were members of Full Tilt Poker. CardPlayer has reported that the Department of Justice has placed an employment notice on their website to hire a third party titled a Claims Administrator to help with the Full Tilt player repayments.

The Department of Justice has stated that there are around 1.3 million potential Full Tilt Poker victims from the United States. The players from the US have account balances that total around $159 million and the money is ready to be paid back now that PokerStars has paid their first installment to the DOJ worth $225 million. When the finalities are in order, a total of $547 million will be paid to the US government by PokerStars.

According to Jeff Irah, an attorney representing Full Tilt Poker and who worked to move the deal along between the DOJ and PokerStars commented that the Claims Administrator hiring is to improve the processing time for payments. Applications for the position will need to be submitted by the end of the month.

Ifrah stated that the choice to hire an outside firm for the repayment process is in line with the DOJ and their feelings throughout the negotiation process. Ifrah stated that this move shows that everything is on track.

The Department of Justice stated that the firm hired will be working with authorities to “design and execute a process to solicit, receive and evaluate claims, and to process payments, for losses incurred by U.S. victims that are attributable to the fraud alleged in the [Full Tilt Poker complaint]. In so doing the Claims Administrator will obtain and evaluate information, such as financial transaction records, from claimants, and analyze information contained in user account records provided in database and other format by Full Tilt Poker.”

Applicants interested in the position must disclose any contact they have had in the past with online poker sites or a gambling company. The DOJ wants this disclosure because any such involvement could ‘be viewed as affecting independence.”
