Oh Delaware, the one state in the US online gambling industry that just cannot seem to catch up. Delaware has held the short end of the stick when it comes to online poker and casino gaming revenues when compared to New Jersey and Nevada, yet has continued to make overall improvements and most recently saw a significant increase in poker revenues.
In the month of August, the state was able to see a nice increase of 24%, this being the second month in a row for an increase in revenues. In July, the state was able to earn a 22% increase and seems to be steadily gaining ground. For August, the revenues were at $38,654.69, which may seem quite small in comparison to New Jersey or even Nevada, but much better for the small state overall.
The state has struggled with earning a steady stream of revenues, with a massive amount of $84,476.91 earned in March but only $25,607.60 earning in June. The big dip in revenues was an unwelcome sight in the state but with the most recent figures, it seems as though things may be turning around. Upgrades to the gaming software, such as allowing MAC users to compete, most likely had an impact on the revenues earned.
The overall gambling offerings, as posted by the Delaware Lottery, show that the state has been consistent with gaming revenues that include casino games, poker and the video lottery. Dover Downs, Delaware Park and Harrington Raceway all were able to earn just over $172,000 which is basically the monthly average for the state when combining all gaming options. Delaware Park is the top operate in the state, earning the majority of the revenues at just over $122,000.
While the online poker numbers are good for Delaware, they are still not great. This can hopefully be improved once the Multi State Internet Gaming Agreement is put in place with Nevada. Both states are trying to get the ball rolling so they can share player pools and both hopefully see even more game play take place within their borders.
