The Main Event of the World Series of Poker is widely regarded as the single most popular poker event in the world. This year, the popular summer poker festival takes place on the web, and the first stage of the 2020 WSOP Online Main Event has officially wrapped up.
A total of 1,171 players survived the starting flights of Day 1, and they returned to the tables on August 30, where the final 40 players should be determined. When Day 2 is completed, the final day will resume on September 5, which is supposed to be the grand finale of the event, when the players have an opportunity to aim for the final prize.
Speaking of prizes, the original guarantee prize for this event was $25 million. However, a total of 5,802 players applied for the event, creating a pool of $27,559,500 in total. The top 728 players will make it to the money list, with the minimum cash being $11,834.
The winner of this prestigious competition will receive a prize of $3,904,868. The player who gets it will officially become a poker player who won the biggest ever prize in online poker. Therefore, it’s safe to say that the WSOP Online is breaking some records this year, as players from around the globe are attending this event, with thousands of enthusiasts closely following every hand.
Start of the Day 2 Chip Leader
All players on Day 1 had three bullets to fire and tried to do their best. Most of them failed in their intention, including GGPoker ambassadors Bertrand “ElkY” Grospellier and Daniel Negreanu. Both of these professional poker players failed to make it to Day 2 as they came up short for every bullet they fired.
On the other hand, the player who started Day 2 with most chips is the Australian poker professional Kahle Burns, who had 1,387,282 at the start. Other chip leaders at that moment were Jonathan Dokler, “stamina22,” Warley Galvao, “TILTTTT1999,” Dennys Ramos, Bruno Souza, “james5388,” Alexander Deutsch, and Vlad Martynenko.
Many other great players managed to make it to Day 2, including Arsenii Karmatckii, Michael Lech, Fedor Holz, and Phil Hellmuth. The young German poker prodigy started Day 2 with 464,791 in chips, whereas Hellmuth had 108,644.
The Main Event also attracted some notable people from outside the poker world, including one of the most popular soccer players at the moment, Neymar Jr., who happens to be a passionate poker player. Apart from Neymar, the cricket legend Shane Warne was also playing the game. Both of them failed to make it past Day 1.
