Event #13 of the 2012 WSOP has finished up and it was sixty six year old David Arsht who outlasted the field of 730 to win his first ever WSOP gold bracelet. The event was a $1,500 Limit Hold’em tournament and $985,500 was up for grabs.
The event started on June 6th and would continue until today. When the final day of play began, it would take almost eleven hours for Arsht to earn the win. When final day play began, eliminations would start very quickly. It would soon be down to two tables and then the final nine.
The first to be eliminated was Lori Kirgan who was knocked out by Al Barbieri as Barbieri’s straight took out Kirgan’s king pair. Next up would be Alex Queen after he came up against Barbieri. Queen would end up all in and with pocket nines, Queen looked good but Barbieri earned a straight yet again and Queen would be out in eighth place.
Seventh place would go to Jeff Weiss after he took on Arsht. After this, the tournament would go to a dinner break and the chip leader of the final table at the beginning, Landowski, would end up losing his stack and he would be eliminated in 6th place.
Glenn Englebert would then be eliminated in fifth place and then four handed play would go on and on. It seemed as though no one was going to be eliminated but eventually the blinds started to force players to take action. Eventually three players would stay in a hand: Auger, Barbieri and Arsht. Auger would go out in fourth and then Barbieri would go out in third, with Stephen Hung and Arsht beginning heads up play.
Heads up play would be short lived as Arsht held a 5-1 chip lead over Stephen Hung. After just six hands, Arsht would be able to take Hung out after both players held trip queens but Arsht held the higher kicker.
