Craig Trost won the recent 2022 Mid-States Poker Tour (MSPT) Iowa State Poker Championship $1,100 Buy-In No-Limit Hold’em Main Event. He took home $180,145 and the trophy after beating all his opponents. The event had 979 entrants and it took place at the Riverside Casino & Golf Resort.

The champion stated after the tournament that he felt fantastic as he had a deep run. His pregnant wife, poker friends, dog, and family motivated him to prolong his run at the final table. It was his first time making a six-figure score.

Trost’s previous top three payouts were from MSPT tournaments. They include a first-place finish in the $350 Buy-In MSPT Regional tournament that earned him $63,252. The Hendon Mob shows that he was over $635,000 in poker tournament earnings.

Besides winning the money and title, Trost amassed 912 Card Player Player of the Year (POY) points. It was his first POY-qualified score this year.

CJ Peake was the runner-up and this was his second time to advance to an MSPT final table this year. He finished second in the MSPT FireKeepers event in May, garnered 900 POY points, and won $241,290 after beating 2,328 players.

Action on the Final Day

Dan Bekavac is the MSPT all-time title leader. He started the final day as the stack leader but failed to win the tournament and won $11,378 after finishing 14th. Other players who had deep runs included Joshua Reichard (World Series of Poker Circuit ring champion) and Angela Jordison.

Trost’s Victory

Jordison’s run ended after Trost’s KClub SuitJHeart Suit outran her KDiamond Suit2Club Suit. Her chips went in after a QHeart Suit5Heart Suit2Heart Suit flop and Trost got outs from the QDiamond Suit turn including a KSpade Suit on the river.

Trost got a pot from queens and kings that had a jack kicker and sent Jordison packing in fifth place. The latter has over $620,000 in tournament scores.

Trost increased his chip lead after eliminating Jordison. But Peake reduced it after his K-Q suited got a preflop showdown against Austin Pasker’s A-9. Trost busted John Dennehey in third place after rivering a straight.

He had a 15,475,000:9,000,000 lead over Peake as they got into a heads-up battle. Trost used 8Club Suit2Heart Suit to make a call on a QSpade Suit3Heart Suit2Diamond SuitKClub Suit3Diamond Suit board. He picked Peake’s bluff and got an over 4:1 chip lead.

Peake doubled up fast and continued battling Trost for over an hour. The latter wagered 500,000 as the former checked on a 7Diamond Suit4Heart Suit3Spade Suit6Diamond Suit board. The 8Club Suit completed it as Peake called.

Trost went all-in and Peake re-checked. The latter called and Trost got the 5Spade Suit2Spade Suit from the straight. Peake held 4Diamond Suit3Diamond Suit and won $110,924 after being the runner-up as Trost took home $180,145 being the event’s champion.
