Many players are determined to win the $4.1 million top prize in the 2022 World Poker Tour (WPT) World Championship in Las Vegas. But, only 37 players from the 2,960 entrants won money after Day 4. Top contenders included Brad Owen and Daniel Negreanu.
The other players agreed to lock up $99,600 for their great achievement. Benny Glaser, a five-time World Series of Poker (WSOP) bracelet champion was the stack leader with 28,800,000 chips.
Reports show that the Briton has almost $3.7 million in recorded poker tournament earnings. Still, he is likely to win more tournaments in the WPT main tour event’s final stages.
Benny Glaser was the stack leader when he advanced to Day 5 with 28,800,000 chips. Besides, he was in the wrong direction in the day’s early levels. The poker pro dropped his position on the leaderboard after Kristen Foxen’s pocket kings beat his pocket queens.
Glaser got a set and held it hence busting Foxen in the 97th position. The former earned a huge pot having a full house against Daniel Sepiol’s king-high flush that helped him regain the stack lead. His stack continued growing for the rest of that night.
Krasimir Yankov followed Glaser with 26,100,000 chips. He used pocket aces to win big three-way all-in-facing pocket queens and pocket kings that increased his chips.
Other players who had large stacks included Jean-Claude Moussa (14,475,000 chips), Igor Kurganov (11,300,000 chips), Brad Owen (9,750,000 chips), and Andrew Ostapchenko (11,000,000 chips). Owen is a renowned poker vlogger with almost 650,000 YouTube subscribers.
He has secured his career’s biggest live tournament score after advancing to Day 5. Other talented players who were among the top 37 finalists included Jason Gooch, Drew O’Connell, Frank Funaro, Nate Kogel, Michael Rocco, Isaac Kempton, Jean Gaspard, Garrett Greer, and Aaron Massey.
Daniel Negreanu’s Performance
Daniel Negreanu and Soheb Porbanderwala are the two players remaining in the field with previous WPT main event wins. The former is a six-time bracelet champion with over $49 million in poker career tournament earnings. He won $5,797,250 in WPT main tour tournament cashes and he is second after Carlos Mortensen who has $6,738,670 in cashes.
Negreanu had an opportunity to overtake Mortensen for his spot if he reached the official final table. He trailed by $941,420 and the event’s top six finalists will cash more than $1,001,050.
Even so, LoriAnn Persinger qualified for the event through Andrew Neeme’s social media competition. The former poker media member and Navy veteran holds 5,125,000 chips when she advanced to Day 5. She would make the biggest live poker tournament cash in her career even if she gets busted first when action resumes.
Persinger revealed in a recent video interview that the tournament was amazing. She alerted her husband that it was one of the rare moments in her life that she wanted a pink slip since that is what she would get later in the day after winning. The player’s initial goal was to first advance to Day 2 and focus on daily achievements.
Day 4 Action
Only 128 players remained on Day 4. So, 91 entrants got busted in the six 90-minute levels that occurred. Some of the players who left the tournament included Justin Young, Chris Lee, Michael Gathy, Markus Gonsalves, and Mike Del Vecchio.
