Aliaksandr Shylko Is the $3.1 Million Champion in the PokerStars Players No-Limit Hold’em Championship

The 2023 PokerStars Players No-Limit Hold’em Championship attracted $1,014 entrants and had a $3,121,838 top prize that Aliaksandr Shylko won. It was the biggest tournament score in the 26-year-old Belgian player’s career.

Shylko previously won $106,770 after finishing fourth in a 2021 World Series of Poker International Circuit €1,700 buy-in main event. The Hendon Mob indicates that he has over $3.5 million in poker tournament earnings.

The poker pro said after his latest victory that it appeared like a dream to him, and he had a great experience. Many good people participated in the event, and he values his win.

Shylko amassed 3,360 Card Player Player of the Year points despite winning the money and title. It was his first time to reach a live final table this year and he currently leads the 2023 POY race standings.

What Transpired on Day 1?

The Baha Mar Resort & Casino hosted the tournament between January 30 and February 3. It had more than 1,000 entries when its registration window closed on Day 2, and they formed a $24,843,000 prize pool. The event’s turnout was second after the 2019 tournament, which had 1,039 players.

Only 400 entrants got a seat after winning a PokerStars Platinum Pass that they got through many contests, leaderboards, and promotions. Some of the 175 players who won money included Dominik Nitsche, Chris Moorman, Daniel Dvoress, Sam Grafton, Jeremy Ausmus, and Fedor Holz.

Action on the Last Day

Nacho Barbero had the largest stack when the day’s action kicked off. Several rare scenarios occurred in the first hour. Barbero put many chips from a small blind in an all-in raise against the big blind’s short stack.

Unfortunately, he missed Shylko as he had made an under-the-gun min-raise. Shylko used pocket jacks to go all-in over Barbero’s 5,125,000 raise for 12 million chips. The latter used 9Diamond Suit3Diamond Suit to move believing he risked Max Menzel’s 3.8 million stack but he had to fold.

Philipe Pizzary’s 7Club Suit4Club Suit on the QSpade Suit8Spade Suit4Heart SuitQClub SuitJDiamond Suit board almost beat Niclas Thumm’s KSpade Suit10Club Suit who later revealed a king high.

Thumm used K-Q suited to call from a big blind. His move gave Barbero a crucial stack lead. It helped him win a pot after improving trips on the river, sending Thumm packing.

Barbero later became the short stack despite winning a big hand after losing a huge pot with sixes and aces. Pizzari’s ADiamond Suit6Diamond Suit beat Pedro Marques’ AClub SuitKHeart Suit. The board ran out 5Spade Suit2Club Suit2Diamond SuitASpade Suit6Club Suit and helped Pizzari end Marques’ run in fifth place.

Barbero followed Marques in fourth place. The 7Spade Suit river and ASpade Suit turn didn’t help him after calling all-in almost 4 million chips.

The three remaining finalists decided to redistribute prize money in a deal, according to ICM. They agreed the winner would get $200,000 and the trophy, while the runner-up would receive $100,000.

Pizzari finished third with $2,524,871 setting up a heads-up match between Shylko and Menzel. Shylko had a 2:1 stack advantage and used 10Heart Suit5Club Suit to make an 800,000 chips limp-in in the final hand.

Menzel used JClub Suit9Spade Suit to check from a big blind, and the flop revealed 8Club Suit5Heart Suit5Diamond Suit. Shylko used trips to call and 10Spade Suit to hit the board.

He won the event when he called after Menzel made a 12,300,000-chip all-in check-raise. Menzel won $2,859,990 after finishing second.
