A West Virginia Lottery Commission (WVLC) spokesman revealed that the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement’s (NJDGE) Director, David Rebuck greatly contributed to West Virginia joining the Multi-State Internet Gaming Agreement (MSIGA). Randy Burnside, WVLC’s Assistant Director stated that they value their collaboration with the NJDGE after MSIGA revealed that West Virginia had signed the gaming pact.
Delegate Shawn Fluharty (D-Ohio) is the National Council of Legislators from Gaming States’s President (NCLGS) and a key supporter of online gaming. He stated in a recent interview that the NJDGE and Rebuck played a vital role in reaching the gaming agreement. The President added that Rebuck needs to be congratulated for expanding MSIGA and engaging other states.
Is Regulatory Aid Common?
Fluharty said that he is glad that local online gaming operators will start providing multi-state poker. New Jersey’s regulator’s aid isn’t unrivalled even though their specific contribution in West Virginia’s addition to MSIGA is uncertain.
The Michigan Gaming Control Board (MGCB) liaised with New Jersey, Nevada, and Delaware’s gaming regulators in 2022 to deliberate on verbiage that ought to be added to the agreement to act as its basis. The three states had joined MSIGA by then.
MGCB stated that the document had to abide by its gaming regulation before it signed the agreement. Other member states agreed and Michigan signed the compact in May 2022.
WVLC revealed that it was interested in MSIGA. However, it wanted a poker operator to petition West Virginia to join the agreement.
The state legalized online poker in 2019. But, none of its existing online casinos provide poker. This might be due to its small population and delay in joining MSIGA.
Poker Companies Have to Submit a Letter Before Providing Multi-State Poker
Any gaming company that wants to provide multi-state poker has to present a letter of intent to WVLC before it gets the green light to launch the game. Michigan poker operators met the same requirements when it signed the agreement in May 2022.
Even so, PokerStars is the only poker operator that has merged its New Jersey and Michigan player pools. Gaming analysts predict that the World Series of Poker (WSOP), Rush Street Interactive (RSI), PokerStars, and BetMGM might start providing online poker soon. They currently provide sports gambling and iGaming.
Will West Virginia Attract Poker Operators Soon?
Rumors claim that RIS will launch the Run It Once Poker application once it completes developing it. John Myers, West Virginia Lottery’s (WVLD) Director stated that he is happy that local players will start accessing multi-state poker.
