Event No. 6 of the 2019 World Series of Poker Europe has come to an end, with Leon Tsoukernik winning the main prize at King’s Resort Casino, located in Rozvadov, Czech Republic. It was really exciting to watch as Tsoukerik managed to win the biggest prize in King’s Short Deck €100K Super High Roller.
A total of 29 players applied for this event and created an outstanding prize pool of €2,755,000. The only players who actually got to receive a cut from the prize pool were the top four.
The most unfortunate player of the competition was definitely Ben Lamb, as he managed to burst the bubble. A total of four players formed the final table. Apart from Tsoukernik, the other three players were Cary Katz, Paul Phua, and Phil Ivey. In other words, Tsoukernik was probably the least famous in the group.
After Lamb was eliminated, the four players created the final table and started playing. Katz was the first one to hit the rail, as he managed to win a total of €275,500. The next player to follow him was Phua, a popular poker player from Malaysia, winning a total of €551,000.
The two players that were left in the game were Tsoukernik and Ivey. Although Ivey was an obvious favorite in the heads-up, Tsoukernik managed to take the title in the end. However, it was definitely not an easy fight for him, as he had to put every last atom of energy into the game. After all, he was playing against one of the greatest poker players of all time.
Heads-Up Play
At the start of heads-up play, Ivey was leading, having three times as many chips as Tsoukernik. Yet, the player from the Czech Republic was not giving up. He managed something that is relatively difficult to pull at this level of competition, especially when playing against one player — he managed to double up three times relatively early on.
In the end, Ivey had to settle for second place. The American player, who has been struggling to keep his winnings in his pocket lately, had to be satisfied with the consolation prize of €826,500. On the other hand, Tsoukernik won a nice sum of €1.1 million.
We were able to see a lot of great hands during heads-up play, as it was one of the most interesting head-to-head duels in King’s Resort during this year’s WSOPE.
Although Tsoukernik may not be as popular as Ivey or Katz, he has had a fair share of winnings in his poker career. He is a successful businessman who likes playing poker every now and then, and he mostly takes part in high-roller tournaments.
The highest prize money in his career was in a 2017 Super High Roller Bowl in Las Vegas, where he won $1,800,000.
