The Gaming Control Board of Nevada is under pressure, as many casinos require to open their doors to the public. To get the best of both worlds, the Board issued a document that includes thorough guidelines for reopening, with only one thing in mind — social distancing.
The guidelines were posted on Friday on the website of the control board. Non-restricted licensees will have to go through a seven-page document with detailed instructions on what they must do before they reopen.
According to the Las Vegas Review-Journal, restricted licensees — which are mostly bars, restaurants, supermarkets, and convenience stores that have 15 or fewer slots — will also have to follow the guidelines. They are presented with a four-page-long document that also instructs them on how to approach the situation.
In both of these documents, it’s clearly stated that every licensee is required to provide a detailed reopening plan at least a week before they actually proceed to reopen their doors to visitors.
Steve Sisolak, the Governor of Nevada, ordered all casinos to shut down their operations to help with the coronavirus spread reduction. The original reopening date has been extended, but now there’s room to talk about reopening even more.
Namely, Nevada continues to improve when it comes to new cases recorded, meaning there’s a decline of new cases and hospitalizations.
The exact date when the casinos will be able to reopen is still a mystery. Namely, some resorts on the Strip have high hopes, meaning they think they would be able to reopen by Memorial Day. On the other hand, some believe that reopening for business would be impossible before June.
Casino Reopening Guidelines
Here are some of the most important guidelines for casinos that want to open their doors to visitors.
First of all, social distancing will be required in all table games. In other words, there are exact limits as to how many players can sit at the same table for different games. For example, a blackjack table will only be able to receive three players at the same time.
Craps will only be allowed to six players and roulette to four players. Poker tables will also only allow up to four people.
Apart from social distancing, there’s a thorough plan for proper cleaning and disinfection procedures. Namely, casino staff will have to regularly clean tables, rails, chairs, dice, shoes, shufflers, roulette wheels, and all kinds of things that casino players come in contact with. There will also be a thorough guideline on how to properly disinfect cards and chips.
Players must not enter in big groups, especially in places where this is usually the case, such as bingo halls, keno lounges, sportsbooks, and racebooks. Nightclubs and dayclubs will remain closed until further notice.
All restaurants and bars must have reduced seating that complies with the social distancing guidelines. In other words, there must be a proper distance between tables and, subsequently, between customers.
