Former mogul and CEO of Wynn Resorts, Steve Wynn, is suing a former employee of one of his former casino’s for defamation. The lawsuit stems from statements made about Mr. Wynn’s long history of alleged sexual misconduct. Mr. Wynn filed the lawsuit against Jorgen Nielsen, the former artistic director of the Wynn Las Vegas salon, in Nevada state court for remarks Mr. Nielsen made to ABC News as well as the Wall Street Journal.

Mr. Nielsen was quoted by these news sources and detailed a long history of sexual mistreatment of female employees including many allegations Mr. Wynn would force his staff to perform sex acts on him. According to Mr. Nielsen, one of these many situations even lead to a $7.5 million settlement. Mr. Nielsen was quoted as saying, ”Mr. Wynn is a sexual predator who used his power over decades to coerce or pressure various women into non-consensual conduct.” Mr. Nielsen told the Wall Street Journal that he and other employees reported such incidents to company executives several times but no action was ever taken.
In the lawsuit, Mr. Wynn calls Nielsen’s comments “false and defamatory.” Mr. Wynn said Mr. Nielsen is smearing him “at a time when he was embroiled in highly contentious and public litigation with his ex-wife, Elaine Wynn.” A lawyer for Elaine Wynn has denied she has had anything to do with the controversies surrounding Mr. Wynn.
This is the third defamation lawsuit brought by Mr. Wynn in recent weeks. In a statement, Mr. Wynn expressed his wish to not prosecute the lawsuits in the papers but he does “seek to hold the defendants accountable for the accusations they made against him.”
In a separate filing in federal court, Mr. Wynn is suing Lisa Bloom for defamation claiming she’s made false allegations of inappropriate sexual behavior against him. Mrs. Bloom is a Las Vegas lawyer and represents a dancer in a show at Wynn Las Vegas. She believes this is an attempt by Mr. Wynn to intimidate not only her client but other women who may not have come forward yet. She plans to fight him in court. Mr. Wynn has filed a defamation lawsuit against The Associated Press as well for its reporting of separate allegations made to the Las Vegas police department.
The last few months for Mr. Wynn has been a whirlwind of accusations and resignations. As the accusations have been building, Mr. Wynn has been forced to very publicly resign as Chairman and CEO of Wynn Resorts and even sell his stake in the company that bears his name. He’s also resigned from the position of finance chairman for the Republican National Committee. A position he was personally appointed to by President Trump.
Mr. Wynn has maintained his innocence amid the mounting allegations. He calls them “preposterous.” Wynn is credited with turning Las Vegas into a premiere vacation destination. His companies have created Treasure Island, the Mirage, and the Bellagio. He is one of the America’s richest men worth over $3 billion.
