Joe Lupo is renowned in the United States casino industry. He currently heads the Casino Association of New Jersey and Hard Rock Atlantic City. Yet, he will soon head Hard Rock Las Vegas.
Lupo’s aim in his next role will be to offer strong results in another casino gaming market. Some people claim that Hard Rock didn’t get someone else as qualified as Lupo for the demanding position. Still, others are concerned that his absence will impact the New Jersey gaming market and Atlantic City operator.
Lupo’s Reputation in American Casinos
Hard Rock declared that it has selected Lupo as its new head on Wednesday in a press release. Wayne Parry from the Associated Press (AP) published a story describing his accomplishments at Hard Rock Atlantic City.
AP’s article indicated that Lupo will be the Mirage Hotel & Casino’s president which MGM Resorts owns after Hard Rock bought it. The Associated Press reported in December that the transaction would end in the second half of 2022.
Even so, Lupo has been Hard Rock Atlantic City‘s president since 2018 and it is his second term at the company. He was Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Tampa’s president before Hard Rock hired him.
Lupo hasn’t spent his entire gaming career with Hard Rock. He also worked at Boyd Gaming’s major casinos in and outside Vegas. He stated that his new Hard Rock role pleased him as he will now return to his family.
Jim Allen, Hard Rock’s CEO, made the press release and said that Lupo is a reliable employee with amazing results. He outperformed the casino operator’s client satisfaction measurements and financial expectations in Atlantic City.
How His New Role Will Affect Atlantic City
Hard Rock promoted Anthony Faranca from Hard Rock Atlantic City’s general manager to the president in June 2022 to replace Lupo. But, Faranca is familiar with various casino operations since he worked in casinos in four states including New Jersey in the past. Some of the executive’s previous roles included being Caesars Regional Vice President of National Casino Marketing when he was in Atlantic City.
The city’s casino association hasn’t disclosed Lupo’s successor yet since his departure. It appointed him as its president in November 2021 when gaming operators slowly adapted to the suspension of COVID-19 restrictions.
Besides, the state legislature was discussing a bill to regulate Payments In Lieu Of Taxes (PILOT) revenue-sharing before passing it as a law. The bill is now a law and it cuts all online gaming revenue from casinos’ PILOT payments to New Jersey.
The Presence of Tribal Casinos in Las Vegas
The Seminole Tribe‘s Hard Rock venture into the Las Vegas casino industry coincided with the San Manuel Band of Mission Indians more to reopen its Palms Casino Resort in April. Yet, the Mohegan Tribe runs the Mohegan Sun Casino in Virgin Hotels Las Vegas. The Palms was the casino in Las Vegas that a tribe owns and operates.
The Seminole Tribe will operate the new property. Lupo will make Hard Rock the most successful tribal enterprise if he performs well at Hard Rock Las Vegas.
